Since when is a 6% grade steep? then vs what? it is for an interstate, local county and city roads are not limited to 6 with a max for short periods of 8% as interstates are. When you hit 20-25% grades like some city blocks are in Seattle, call me, I'll tell you what steep is, we are also talking sea level! The steepest roads at elevation ie 9500' I have been on and seen are in Yellowstone, those where what I would call middle of the road at 15%!
