So in other words, HP ain't everything, right?:)
LOL...
It can't be since it can't exist without torque and velocity...
:)
And without both torque (force) and rpm (velocity), together kanown as horsepower, there will be no motion.:B
Torque is a component of horsepower. Horsepower is the value that determines how fast we tow.;)
So if it is all about hp and speed and numbers, answer me this. How fast will 350 hp pull 80,000 pounds down the road on level ground?
The problem with this question is many fold....
Gear ratios, tire diam, even the tread type, aerodynamics of the rig, How may tires, width of the tires, type of ground you are on, ie concrete vs asphalt vs lose gravel vs tar/pebble vs.............
All of these issues and MORE will decide the final speed of a rig!......we can go into tranny types too, alt size, AC or not, on or off.........
Marty
HP is what gives you speed, torque is what moves the load! You can't just have one!
They work together to get the job done, older low HP diesels would move big loads up hill all day, just not very fast!
High HP gassers could fly down the road, but without extremely low (4.10 or lower) they couldn't even think about going up a hill.
I will take torque over HP any day, yes I drive a diesel 01 Cummins 5.9 DS Power Puck 285 HP 610 ft. lbs of torque. That 360 ci engine moves 12K of 5er up 6 percent grades at 55 mph with 3.55 gears, do that with the same size gaser with even the same HP, as it will not have the same torque!
I know that Diesel isn't for everyone, but it sure works for me.
Can we get back to cost of operation and maintenance please. I am getting close to 7,000 miles on current oil change, and may have Blackstone see how far I can go on the Delo 400 LE that is in there, sure would like 10K oil changes.
I think I can go 10K without needing to add any oil to my 252,000 mile engine.
