Well, I think the general consensus is that it depends. If you are not going to do a lot of towing, there are several gas engines out there that will do the job of pulling a 5th wheel. What a gas engine can do a diesel can do better. The only downside is that some maintenance on a diesel is more expensive. Personally I drive a dodge 2500 with the 360 V8 and think it does just fine with my 28' fifth wheel. Now, if I were to hook on to my trailer with a diesel, I would want to get rid of the gasser and buy a diesel. All that being said, I bought my truck for $3500, good luck finding a decent diesel for that price!
If money were no object, I would have a diesel no question about that! Just not sure which one, they all make what seems like unreal amounts of torque.
