Just as a followup, I have to say diesel rocks, especially as an alternative to a "big block" v8. Massive torque allows not only for strong pulling uphill, but great engine braking downhill. Mileage while towing is great too. The turbo allows for full power at altitude. There really is no downside, other than initial expense.
Downside is the weight. I have a gas engine in part because the diesel version has almost 1,000 lbs less payload capacity and I need all the carrying capacity I can get.
I can appreciate the need for capacity. I guess I am just spoiled. We camp in the mtns 99% of the time.
Elevation @ home 1175'
Elevation @ camp 7400'
A few climbs in 100* temps up to about 5000' then it will start to cool off. The altitude alone will kill a gasser. A boosted eng will pull as good there as @ home.
I'm not knockin gassers if that's what someone wants just get tired of hearing about gassers towing as well as a diesel. They will not. If you have one bring to Az and we'll see.
