Dang...I haven't checked this thread for a while and I was sure you guys would have this worked out by now. Diesel vs Gas...the question with no definitive answer.
This is what makes this thread so much fun. I drive what I want and I assume everyone else does also. It's fun to debate. Just like I have said before "keep your gasser to the right"
Yeah...you're right about that. I've been debating myself (literally) for about a year.
I tried debating myself once and got worn out and never won. Gave it up. This thread is way more fun.
Yeah...and the other half has about had it listening to the pros and cons of gas vs, diesel. I think she's about ready to tell me to just go buy one and shut up. :B
LOL buy what?? Which way are you gonna swing?
If I can swing it I'm leaning towards diesel. I'm just having a hard time prying that extra $8k out of my pocket for the up front cost.
Over the years I've always driven Chevys or GMC (with the exception of one Dodge in 94) and never had any qualms about the power or longevity of gas motors. But...I was younger and still working and knew I would eventually buy another one, usually somewhere after the 100k mile mark. This will likely be the last truck I buy, so that's a consideration I never had to make before.
I know there are a lot of big block V8s with 100K plus out there pulling just fine. I'd just rather have a diesel when I get to that point. So for longevity I have to go with the diesel.
Then there's the power. With the new Duramax you got almost 400 hp at 3000 rpm and 765 lbs of torque at 1600 rpm. There are some spots in the Smokies we like to go where this would really come in handy. I'm not saying a big block V8 wouldn't get me there, because it would. I'm just saying the Duramax would do it with a lot less effort.
Again, I'm not knocking the big block V8s. For what we have in mind the diesel just seems like the way to go for us.....IF I can pry that extra $8k out of my pocket.
