It doesn't matter what fruit you compare.
The diesel guys don't believe any of it.
The truth: A modern diesel gets 2-3 better mpg towing and unloaded. costs 8-10k more. is only worth a couple (2-4) of mph more climbing a hill, and is likely to never pencil out as a financial decision. Lots of people like them and enjoy towing with them more and they sell lots of them for a reason but when you actually apply numbers to them they don't make practical sense for most people.
For those that WANT and can easily afford a diesel then hey this is America (or Canada) the land of the semi free. If diesel floats your boat then get one.
I do take offense to those that are continually told possibly to the detriment of their limited financial situation that they NEED a diesel.
I also take offense to inaccurate statements about the differences between gas and diesel. (i.e. diesel engines always produce better low end power when the truth is turbocharged engines produce better low end power. a turbo gas engine of similar displacement will produce very similar low end power and then continue to rev out and produce much higher upper rpm power than a comparable diesel)
