I have watched this thread for years; only occasionally offering my thoughts. I was always a gas guy; big block Chevys in particular. Loved them; still do. Pass everything on the road but a gas station. I Used to call e diesel guys out at evey opportunity. We towed heavy to FL one year; got 5-6 mpg and had to add a quart of oil twice. Finally bought a diesel when a good deal came along. Same trip with my Duramax got 9-11 mpg. No oil. BIG difference. Then Chevy shot themselves in the foot again by doing what they usually do by NOT giving the people what they want; they discontinued the 8.1 making the 6.0 the only gas option in the 2500/3500 truck. They did increase the power but "there is no replacement for cubic displacement". Comparatively, the engine is a dog for towing. It needs high RPM's to make power and screams like a banshee when it does. You also cannot get the Allison trans unless you get the Duramax which is worth the price of admission. The diesel does what the gas will, but it does it effortlessly. Makes the trip easier, less stressful. The only way I'd sell my 2500HD is if Chevy put the Duramax in the Suburban; remember what I said about them giving the people what they want? I think I'll have my truck for a very long time.
