Allow me to disagree....
1: A typical 2500/3500 diesel ~6-6.7L will likely not go over 2700-2800 RPM at the worst of times....EVER.!
2: My 2500 6.6, like many others is nearing the 270,000 mile mark...still pulls like a raped ape...has never been redlined - towing or otherwise...the Allison simply won't let it unless one forces it to - why would ya.?
Not sure where you get your info my friend...given normal maintenance, diesel will outlast and out pull a gasser any given day of the week...on any road in any province in any state.

My LLY Duramax has a 3250 redline under power and a 4750 redline under deceleration. I'd say your "2700-2800" is a little optimistic.
