Disappointed with Fastgun Handle

Just received my new Fastguns and upon opening the package I noticed they have a cheap looking straight handle rather than the lever rifle looking handle. The box they are in as well as most the litature I have read show the fancy rifle handle but not the ones I got. I checked the website and sure enough they state "actual product handle may vary". This seems ridiculous to me. Why show you one thing and send you another?? I really like the look of the lever rifle handle but I guess that isn't what they sell.

While I am on a rant I might as well share the rest of my Torklift disappointment.

1. Powder coating on super hitch and frame mounted tie-downs is pathetic. Got very chipped up in shipping and seems much thinner than a coat of rattle can paint.

2. The holes in the frame rail of my 2015 SuperDuty where the stock reciever was mounted are like 3/4". The superhitch mounts with 1/2" bolts using rectangular washers on top. The washers pulled down into the holes when I torqued the bolts and if I towed heavy like this it would probably pull the washer right through the hole. Haven't decided my fix but I will probably ream the superhitch holes out to 5/8" and then build a top plate with 5/8" holes that will sandwich the frame rail.

3. The slide in tubes on the frame mounted tie downs are very sloppy. When the fastguns are tight they don't slop around but without the camper on they must be removed or they flop around and rattle. Why not use tube that slips in with a little closer tolerance? While on the subject why not use a tube with a little thicker wall?

Previous truck had happijac which wasn't perfect but I am no more impressed with the Torklift. Everyone seems to talk very highly about the Torklifts but I am now questioning why??

On a side note why do the tie downs extend front and back from the tubes which causes them to twist the tube while pulling up? Why not use the hole in the center for a direct pull?

  • Not anything I could say that would make you appreciate what you received but...
As too the handle, they haven't used the winchester style in quite awhile, maybe couple of years. Im unsure why they have not changed the banner at top of page that shows the old style-but all the actual product images show the new style. the why- The old style handle it is very easy to get your fingers pinched between the handle and fastgun body, it smarts. Most try to grasp the handle instead of sticking fingers thru the holes. Mine are the old style, while they sorta look cool they are actually rather awkward to use.

On the hitch powder coating- not sure, if that bad vendor should have been contacted-though thru amazon likely you would have paid return shipping to warranty. Im not a fan of powder coating. But on the mounting-while anything could be improved I doubt the bolts are going to pull the 1x2 3/16" flat bar thru the frame holes. However I also thought about reusing the factory top bars, (they span 2 bolts on mine) and possibly reusing the factory Ford bolts, redrilling the hitch. Never did. I still have my factory hitch & hardware.

On the tie down mounts, Yes the interference fit is very loose. But myself I really wouldn't want any tighter. I dont leave them on truck when camper not on, however I have another pair I keep on the truck when camper off that I use for side steps into bed. They can rattle a bit off pavement.

The rotational pull you noted, at first concerned me,seemed odd but never been an issue. Generally you want greater pull angle on the tiedowns, that said, if your comfortable with the angle you could use them centered.

Again not trying to tweak your opinion, only my observations. Ive never bought anything that didn't cause me to ponder 'what the heck' and fix or modify. Torklift products though, for me, closest out of the box happy with what I received and felt I got my monies worth.
Compared to other mfgs and what is sold no comparison. But thats a personal opinion- if your not happy, your not happy, which is a bummer cause they dont give the stuff away.

They extend front and back to give the user various points to attach the camper to. Allowing the turnbuckles to pull/hold the camper in the correct direction. The die downs ar designed for the truck but not necessarily the camper. Different campers will use different connect points.
(I think I got this info from one of their videos.)

  • With tension while releasing the Fastguns, you can get your fingers in a bind on the lever action rifle style. Tie downs face opposite to position Fastguns at an angle. My tie downs have enough slack to slide in and out and to wiggle enough to install the retaining pin. My SuperHitch fit perfect, but I drive a RAM. I have a few 100,000 miles on my setup and have NO COMPLAINTS.

As far as tolerance, sand, salt, and dirt can make those tie downs bind if they were much tighter.
  • Wow that is exactly the opposite of my experience with Torklift. Everything fits right, and I'm on my second set. yeah contact them and they will figure out how to make it right. Hey I used to live on University near the college, just before the tracks. Drove school bus all over Fairbanks.
  • I think they did a way with the lever handles and went with the straight handles. I think there was a problem with the original type handles. Call them, they will fill you in on the change over. I bet if you want to return them they will make thing right for you.

I would guess they can't, because the tubing isn't made in size that fit tightly in to each other.

Not in that thin of wall but there is closer tolerance tubing. I have built flat beds with stake pockets and other projects that used tube in tube and I have found sizes that fit snug.

    They'll make it right!!!!!!!!

They have higher quality products that they send to customers that are not satisfied with what they received? Fairly sure that what I recieved is what they sell everyone. I have heard that they have excellent customer service so I have no doubt that I could do like a money back guarantee and as far as that goes I could send it all back to Amazon and go a different route but at this point it's all bolted to the truck so I will just deal with it. Just kinda venting my final frustration when I found out that the handles on the fastguns are not honestly represented.
