- BeachumsExplorerWeight distribution set ups will go a long way in adding stability. They add more points of attachments to your TV. Even slow speed bumps will have a noticeable difference when a properly tensioned hitch is in play. It only magnifies with speed.
However, as previous posters have stated, it's my opinion that one is not needed....just recommended. - peted123ExplorerOur new TT is about the same size but with our 2011 4Runner as a TV, we needed the WDH. We bought the new Anderson "No Sway" WDH. Aside from the huge ball and hitch setup that comes with it, I'm pretty happy in the way it levels the trailer.
- skipncharExplorerWith a trailer that small you MAY not need a WD system but crawl under your Expy and read the numbers stamped on your hitch. It will tell you how much it is rated for both WITH and WITHOUT a WD system in use. Even if you don't NEED one it's a VERY handy way of getting some really good anti sway equipment attached and once a sway event begins is a VERY bad time to go shopping for something to prevent it. It will also make a HUGE difference in how well your Expy rides while towing.

I know I really don't need it on my setup, but for piece of mind I do use it. I have a Chevy 3500 dually and tow a max weight TT of 6500 lbs. The TT does not drop the trucks back end with or without the WD hitch, but I like having it for piece of mind.
LOL no you definitely don't need it for weight distribution. I think you're wise though, if not for anything else, to be using it for sway control.
MY my advice to the OP would be to get a WDH. The Expedition is a 1/2 truck, right, unlike the Excursion? Your trailer is light, but a little bit of properly set up weight distribution along with sway control would be a wise purchase. - kearlmsExplorerI know I really don't need it on my setup, but for piece of mind I do use it. - beemerphile1ExplorerMaybe yes, maybe no. Your hitch most likely has a non-weight distribution limit of 500# tongue weight. If the tongue weight is under 500# you won't have to have weight distribution. On the other hand, it wouldn't hurt anything to have it.
- RitkeiExplorerIMO with a TT that weighs so little and a solid TV you probably don't, but if you got the extra coin, then get the weight dist and sway control the likes of Blue Ox. Your time behind the wheel will be much more relaxed.
