Started running diesel tractors back in the 50s. They would tell you to warm the diesel up and cool before killing. Then early 70s turbos began to show up on farm tractors. We were told told to definitely warm up and cool down. We would back fuel trailer up to tractor and while doing late day mantaince we would allow the tractor to run at high idle, and when full of fuel kill it. Diesel engines have definitely since those days. They say they don't need near as much idle before shut down as they use to. Still if I've been out pulling I will let the engine cool down. Part if habit, but I think a hard pulling engine needs to cool the turbo and entire parts off before its just killed.
