Just me, but if I didn't have to have a dually for our heavy fiver, I would not have one. It has to be my daily driver and they can be very inconvenient to park sometimes, let alone get thru some drive thru lanes. Most folks will tell you that it is no big deal and maybe it shouldn't be for me but it is. Weight wise, we are kind of in between the capacities of a singe rear wheel one ton and the dually. If GM increases the capacities of their trucks on their next redesign, whenever that is, I will look at going back to an srw.
I totally agree with your experience. I had a dually and it was way too much truck for my application. Some drive thru's are fine. Others...not so much.
The dually fenders create a blind spot behind them...this is somewhat offset by the new 360° cameras and such but it's a reality. My small utility trailer disappeard behind the dually fenders until I was turning significantly. Yea, I could buy a bigger trailer but that's not the point.
My travel trailer didn't make my truck squat at all...literally no measurable difference. So the ride was not softened by towing the trailer (31 ft, 7,700 gvwr TT). However, once I loaded the golf cart in the bed and put my family in the truck it rode great.
Plus, they do not fit in automatic car washes...not a big deal for me but for some it's a pretty big deal.
thanks!
