The extension is for the inner tire.
If the valve stem on the outer tire was on the outside, I'd buy that explanation. However, it is on the inside. Seems like it needs an extension just as bad as the inner tire.
Also doesn't explain why they're sold in packs of 4.
Sorry but I'm not understanding any of that.
My outer wheel is an alloy with approximate 1.250" diameter holes in it. The valve stem on it is metal, on the outside, and is pointed directly away, toward the inside wheel. There is no problem using a dually air chuck on it.
The inner wheel is a painted black steel wheel. It has a typical rubber valve stem with a straight 2" extension coming towards the hole in the alloy wheel. The same hole that the outer tire valve points to.
So, both valves are essentially in the same location, degree wise, on both wheels. Both sides of the dually are the same.
A rigid steel dually tire chuck cannot be angled enough through the alloy outer wheel hole to directly approach the inner wheel valve. I can get near the inner valve and push it around with the chuck and eventually get a shot good enough to add air after I have lost 5-10 pounds. I don't like that.
Amazon sells extensions as singles, pairs, 4, or a package of 100.
