Btw is good Sam assistance worth it, I did get it for a year just to be safe.
Have fun on the trip! Your truck should be just fine, it's just a matter of how much weather you hit. I doubt it'll squat enough that you'll want airbags but I could be wrong.
I would definitely recommend bringing along some basic winter travel items I always carry on trips this time of year - tire chains, leather gloves and insulated coveralls (in case you need to install said chains), recovery strap, some sort of shovel, jumper cables, extra blankets, and emergency food and water. Make sure you have appropriate clothing as well.
