- wilber1ExplorerRam's "miserable" payload doesn't seem to be an issue for these folks.

Just as Fiat-Chrysler ended up in 2nd-place in overall sales in Canada in 2013 to Ford, its Ram (nee Dodge) full-size truck family ended up as the second-best-selling new vehicle — car or truck — behind Ford’s perennially best-selling F Series. With sales up a substantial 16% in 2013 compared to 2012 - wilber1ExplorerMost of what is said here will be of little interest to the majority of people who buy 1/2T trucks.
- MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerNice truck, but way to much money just to pay 60 cents more a gallon for fuel. Wonder If the Colorado with diesel will get over 30 mpg ???? Wonder what that payload will be ??

Totally agree! These automotive dealers are business owners first, Ram dealers, second. Competition is absolutely a win for consumers.
Would dealers order that many if they didn't have confidence in the product ?
Even if its never more then a nich product only Ram can do this, nobody else would bother.
That a win for people that want a light duty pick up eh?
The payload on the popular, nicely equipped, SLT Quad Cab version of the Ram Ecodiesel is about 1,300 lbs. Hardly lacking for the AVERAGE, non RV.NET, buyer. Yes, I totally get it: 859 - 1,300 lbs. of payload will NOT suffice for many here on RV.NET. I understand why and totally empathize with their position.
However, one has to chuckle and respect all the various aspects of human nature, even when folks say this truck is DOA just because THEY, personally, don't have a use for it. - TerryallanExplorer IISeems Ram is the only one making a 1/2 ton truck. Every one else is making 150s, and 1500s that will haul, and tow more stuff.
- parkersdadExplorerThey may say it for now but I bet they will change their tune. Here is a little evidence to back up my claim. If you look on the Internet you can find plenty of articles like this.

He said Al. body, diesel does not make sense for our customers. - uterepExplorerFord Says No to Diesel-powered F-150 Truck
Believe it or not, Ford declined to join the party claiming that a diesel light-duty pickup truck doesn’t make sense for the time being.
"We don't see the dynamics for an F-150 diesel right now," said Raj Nair, Ford's group vice president of global product development.
"If you go through the math, your payback is much longer and consumers are smart enough to know that." - parkersdadExplorerIt is not a niche. Chevy is coming out with a smaller diesel as well. Ford will follow suit I'm sure. As soon as consumers pulling small trailers figure out they can get 20 miles per gallon towing they will switch from the Ecoboost and Ford will have to do something. That is just my opinion though. The eco-boost was a good idea but it really gets no better gas mileage than a hemi or Chevy 5.3 motor. Only advantage it gives you is pulling up a grade. Now the new game is fuel mileage
