Electric trailer jacks-help with comments

My current electric jack is about to quit (Ufab). It has become wobbly and clicks or skips every so often as it inclines.

I am considering a Barker VIP 3500 capacity for about $240 from Amazon or the Husky Brute 4500 Capacity, for about $206 both free ship and both 2.25 posts.

Everyone really praises Barker, but I can't find much about Husky because maybe it is new?

Any experience with either is appreciated.

Is 1000 lb. capacity drop worth the Barker name. My tongue weight is about 1200 lbs. hooked to a 3/4 T Suburban and using an Andersen hitch which requires some lifting to get the chains off. Both tout ball bearing quiet operation.

Thanks for the input if you have it.

If I were to replace my current Atwood, I would look for something much quieter.

I have the Atwood as well and let me tell you ... when hitching up it seems that all eyes are focused on me as if I'm commiting a crime. Last time at the CG I felt like I should get some police tape and wrap it from the truck mirror to the a-frame. :o

It's working just fine but I'm thinking about replacing it with a quieter model and the Barker or Husky were at the top of my list. Let me know which one you choose!

  • I have been doing a little research on this as well. The trailer I have coming has an electric jack, but I don't know if it's the best quality and I'm doing my research in case I have to replace it.
The Barkers are definitely highly rated, but there are others that get high marks as well. If I were to buy one today, I would get the Barker 3500# high power with the 24" rise. I haven't seen a Barker with any higher capacity than 3500#. That's definitely high enough capacity for me and my setup, but with your heavier tongue weight and a 3/4 ton with, I'm assuming, stiffer suspension, I might be tempted to go with higher capacity as well... Not sure, just thinking out loud.
That's a very good question for the experienced electric hitch buyers/users on the forum. The Husky hitches seem to be fairly well- regarded... I wonder if their electric jacks are built as well.
I'll be interested to see the experienced replies...
