Mine never has in 10 years of towing with it in bumper. No rub spots on cord either even with a Rhino liner over the top edge of tail gate.

Yours may have a deeper Vee than mine does. Or you have longer arms. I can't reach the corner of the bed with my tailgate up, without an uncomfortable stretch. Easier to just plug it in under the bumper. Just the way it works best for me.

I'd considered it at one time then realized I'd have to lower the tailgate to reach the plug and lost interest in the project.

I never have to lower my 5th wheel tailgate to plug unto the bed, Mine is in the left rear corner of the bed and plug in all the time with the tailgate up.

RAM actually has a plug and play kit for your truck. I personally would do it. I have towed for the last 10 years with the cord over the tailgate but the new 15 has it in the bed and it is a lot better that way.

I second this. I wired my extra backup light into that harness and its plug and play. Buy it from the dealer and I it'll plug right in. Its about 18" long and connects by the truck frame directly under the in bed plug.

I looked at this today, and the directions showed that the tailight needs to be removed and then they are installing this near the tailgate entrance.

This is instructions for the factory accessory plug....please review and see if this makes sense to you. They are removing the twilight housing and drilling in a very unusual place. I also have taken pictures of the factory install and they installed the plug on the side of the truck bed wall.

I will try and find out how to add a picture of the factory install.

On my 11 I would place a strip of blue tape along the top edge of the tailgate where the cord would rub. It was a bit tacky looking but worked.

In the bed with the 15 is much nicer.

We have a bumper pull travel trailer and when I ordered my truck, it was on the list of options I wanted, but it got missed. I had planned on using it if I wanted to ever pull 5th wheel or slide in truck camper or connect up some in bed lighting. It was cheap as factory option, haven't needed it yet, but will probably add it when needed..

So plugged the cord into rear bumper electric receiver and put the remaining cord excess into the bed of the truck. It bounced out or threaded out of the bed of the truck onto the road and by the time I figured out there was a problem- the outer insulation and 4 of the 7 wires were bare down to the wire including the electric brake wires. Got to a campground in Ft. St. John--parked it--and went to work splicing the wires back together. Then got a roll of Duck Tape and taped it all to the bed of the truck. Didn't move until we got back home in So. Calif.
Always carry Duck Tape !!!

Same thing happened to me bringing home my first fifth wheel.
