I have a old moto sat on my FW

I absolutely LOVE my Dish Network Tailgater system.

Completely self-pointing, HD, and one step setup.

Ive had 3 campers with crank up dishes, they work good , but when I wanted high def tv , I swiched to dish from direct , free HD, and direct w/ crank up is SD , you can us the crank up w/ dish HD but you have to move the dish to get all three sat`s
I got a tailgater a 211k receiver and an external hard drive for a DVR
It works good , but because of the smaller dish inside is more prone to rain fade . you cant beat the auto tracking , but you do have to wait longer for it to do its thing as opposed to the crankup
I made my own ladder mount and put a padlock on it , its always ready when I stop, if I park somewhere that I cant get reception I can remove it quick and put a 50 ft cord on it, and lock it up there .
I use a switched plug strip on the tv , and sat receiver because if it has power to the 211k it searches for a sat constantly

You can get several types of ladder mts online if you search for them ,or us a tripod, or just set it on anything as long as there are no bandits around

By the way , there is supposed to be a metal plate on the roof where the crank up dish roller comes down

Now there's a thought...mounting to ladder system. With the constant search, where is it getting the power to move around? Is that why you say the switch plug strip? Do all these dome search systems constantly search?

The tailgater, made by kingdome, is powered by the rg6 coaxial wire and the low voltage going thru it, if the receiver is off but has power it will still "search for sat" so I turn the plugstrip off because my inverter my be on for other things or while driving for the refrig , and I don't want to see how long the tailgaters motors will last
The tailgater only searches when its not locked on the sat
Other dome types require a separate power cord , and are not really portable

Ive had the crank up style dish and also the Winegard dome. I'll take the dome any day. All self contained and automatic. No need to crank anything down before driving off.If there is a tree or obstacle in the line of sight a standard crank up or auto dish will not be any better than the dome. An obstacle in the path is going to interefere with any sat system.

Mark, The cost of a system seems very high at $2K. Do you need to buy the $900 control box? Even more! Portable domes are 30% of that.
Plus I don't want an exposed dish on the roof any longer. This is a TC and not a live aboard. Have to admit it has all the bells and whistles. THx for your comments.

Okan...That looks like a nice install. I see there is a flat plate attached to the roof...is that for stability and wind tubulance? Would you provide some close ups of the whole system...no rush whenever you have a moment.

With the plug switch turniong off the power to the rcvr so the dome doesn't get power...does that cause a noticable delay in the reboot of the system? Does the rcvr need to be booted before the dome searchs? THX

Another happy Tailgater user. This is a home made bracket. Just some aluminum L channel and a top plate bolted together then U bolted to the ladder.

There is a delay on power up as the receiver brings up a menu asking which state you're in to give the dish a starting point for its satellite search. Then it's a couple 2-4 minutes while it searches for the satellites, then it's the normal startup sequence.

King Flex portable. place it anywhere you want on its 50 foot cable to clear the trees and it is self locating
