Emergency Exit window came loose

Has anyone ever had a problem with the emergency windows coming loose? It is one of the Lippert ones with the little lever you unhook, and then it swings up.

Ours came unlatched on our first trip with the camper, and a nice guy flagged us down as it was flapping up and down. Now on our 3rd time out, it came unlatched again, but this time we did not notice until I saw it sliding down the road in my mirror.

Has anyone else had a problem with these coming unlatched? Hoping the dealer will cover it under warranty, as I have not opened the window on any of our trips.

Thanks
  • Suspect we were on the receiving end of one of those windows. Last spring we were passing a 2010 Copper Canyon 5th wheel with a bedroom window flapping. Just as we went by it came off and hit my motorhome about mid way down the side. Had two quotes; one was $16K the other $10K. I agreed to take the lower one, still pretty spendy. The lady said she was sure it was locked down when they started that morning.
  • I had one come loose on me and flap around.

Now I use a twist tie on both my exits so it won't happen again.

The real question is why have you waited beyond the first trip when you were apprised of this issue to have it addressed? :h Repair will either be covered under warranty or not covered, depending on whether you have any remaining on your rig ... either way, this emergency exit window needs to be repaired or replaced and posing the question here isn't going to advance this goal in any way. Get thee to they dealer ASAP.:W

And to answer your question - no, I've not had any issues with the emergency exit window on any trailer we've owned.

The first time, I thought it was a fluke, or it had not been latched properly when we picked it up. Second trip was 6hrs each way, and had no problem, then the 3rd trip it did it again, so I realize it was not isolated. Just wondering if it is a know problem with this type of window. I'll be calling the dealer today, and taking it to them this weekend, the camper is only 2 months old..
  • Used to happen to me until i put a shim in the window's weather stripping to make it a tighter fasten when they are supposed to be locked into place
  • There was a recall several years ago for this. I was able to reshape the handle to stop the issue but before that I just used a small spring clamp on the handle to keep it locked.

Something like these clamp come in handy around the RV for all sorts of things.
