5.0 is a very good engine. I'd prefer that to any forced induction engine for long term durability, except the I-6 Cummins. Just my .02, I'm an old school country hick. If it ain't got 8, it ain't great. Lol.
Not disagreeing. Just adding on to be thoughts.
Any good normally aspirated gas motor for towing better have a liter capacity that starts with a number greater than 6. 7 or 8 is even better.
And, as always, get both.
My 6.0 Suburban is very carefully eyeing a Whipple supercharger. You know, for those just in case moments. I have no doubt it will last longer than I want to own it.
My prior truck was a 2015 1500 Silverado, and it had the new Gen 5.3. Let me tell you, even fully loaded and loaded heavy for a week camping trip, even up in the mountains, that 5.3 had pleanty of juice. Once the truck got into the proper gear and the rpms came up, it pulled very hard.
The chassis was the issue and why i upgraded. Some folks think it's a bad thing when a gas engine gets up in its powerband, north of 3-4,000 rpm. It's not bad at all. That's where it makes its power, it's designed to run up there for hours on end if need be. It won't hurt it and your not overworking it running it like that. Just be dilligent on maintenance and it'll live just fine. And in my humble opinion, a V8 sounds great doing that work.
Just my .02 for what it's worth.
