Equalizer hitch. where do you store when not in use?

Im sorry, this takes the dumb post of the year award. but I have my first TT and not sure how others do this. I have the equilzer E4 hitch that dealer installed on my 2013 ram 1500 truck... 2014 tracer 2670 camper. I would like to know where I can store the big ball and hitch mount? this thing must weight in excess of 50 pounds or more. is it safe to store in camper? I don't want to ruin the floor inside the storage compartment. im not sure what kind of weight those small compartments can hold. do you normally store hitches and stuff in the camper or take inside house to store when not in use? im sure when camping I will just leave the ball mount hooked up to truck and forget about it, just wondering when im home if its ok for the floor of the camper to keep those heavy pieces in there all year long..thanks again

  • I put the bars in the TT compartment with heavy cardboard underneath and the locked hitch stays on the truck most of the summer otherwise I leave it on the floor of the garage. I would never leave any part of the hitch or bars on the ground or tongue unsecured.
  • When at home, the hitch goes on the floor in the garage. If we are camping several times in close promiximity, I just leave the hitch on the truck so I don't have to move it around (it's heavy, rusty and greasy). Also when at home, the bars and clamps get stored in the front storage compartment of the TT. At the campsite, I just place them on the ground near the tongue. I make sure all the clamps and clips are attached so I don't lose any cotter pins.
  • I store the hitch head in an old cooler when not towing. The bars go back in the box they came in. The cooler stays in the back of the tow vehicle unless we are home for a while and then it goes in the trailer.
  • so im assuming the storage in front of my camper will support the weight of this heavy ball mount system? thing weights a ton. I don't have a garage at my house, but I don't mind putting it in a closet.. but if its no harm to camper floor inside storage compartment then I will just leave it sitting there and lock it
  • I have a clear plastic tub I bought from Wally World with wheels on it, intended for under the bed storage. In that, I toss the spring bars, the spring bar tool, the stinger, and a container with the L-shaped retainers and their cotter pins. I also toss a set of rubber gloves in there so I don't get my hands greasy when attaching/detaching it.
  • My bars go on top of the battery boxes and the stinger (hitch head) goes in the back of the truck when camping. When at home they both go just inside the door of the camper on the floor with a rug under them to keep the floor clean.
  • LOL, nevermind, im assuming when you say aframe your putting in the front storage place .. and not actually outside the camper... still wondering about that weight of the hitchhead on that coupler.. that's a good idea..
  • dumb question and that's a good idea, but when you put that big 100 pound hitch head in the coupler do you put any support underneath that? or is the coupler ok to support that weight and wont stress it? like is said, I am brand new to this, and not sure what can be supported weight was or not. and you don't worry about the bars being stolen while sitting on the aframe? maybe im not sure what the a-frame is, im assumimg that's the front frame by the battery and propane?.thanks
  • At home, I leave the bars and hitch head on the floor in the garage.
While camping, I store the bars across the A-frame and the hitch head in the trailer coupler. I do use a hitch lock on the coupler, so the head cannot disappear.
