When I was shopping around for TC about 3 years ago, I had a chance to buy about 3 of them damaged by coming off the truck. I remember one seller admit he lost camper at highway speeds.
I have degree in mechanics and don't think the common ties are really strong, especially for camper like mine that can exceed 5000 lb, but then unless you have plastic bedliner, what is slippery the camper sits on the bed with friction pretty well. Air drag alone is not going to lift it.
Still seeing how campers can bounce on beds, I wonder if the ties don't drop occasionally from short hooks.
