adamis what your truck registration says?
Unless you reclassify the truck with camper on it, in CA it will always say "commercial" and you pay weigh fees.
From top of my head non-commercial pickups are below 11,500 GVW, meaning any 3/4 t or above pickup will be commercial.
It is all boiling to not what we feel, not how we use, but what the paper says.
IIRC, I don't always, there are different weight categories but all pick up trucks, even my old 1962 Ranchero was included as a commercial vehicle. It was even given a cargo capacity of 500 pounds. To achieve a motorcoach classification and therefore, receive a standard car registration and plates, a pickup with a camper much have the camper permanently bolted to the body.
Interesting point but the truck is registered in Nevada, not California. I don't have the registration paperwork handy at the moment to see if Nevada might reference commerical or not.
That being said, the Daly City code was pretty clear that it was referencing vehicles used for commercial business. At $325 it would have been well worth my time and effort to argue that with a judge.
