In the early 2000's GM made two "3/4 ton" trucks, a 2500 and a 2500HD.
The 2500 has a semi-floating rear axle and an 8600GVWR
The 2500HD has a full-floating rear axle and a 9200GVWR
The 1500HD is just a crew cab version of the 2500 model with the semi-floating rear axle.
It is **NOT** a "half ton" truck. The badging is basically an end-around on some HOA (homeowners association) rules against heavy-duty pickup trucks.
There is nothing different between the 1500, 1500HD, 2500, and 3500 trucks as far as the body is concerned from 2003 on. In 2001-2002, the 3500, and possibly 2500HD pickups have a higher hood.
