How do you reconcile that it claims to be "Roadside Assistance". If it was a to towing service seems to me that it would advertise as a "towing service".
Its a towing service... !!!!
I think your splitting hair in the definition. "assistance" means they will come out and assist you or tow to nearest repair center if your vehicle has a problem. They don't call it roadside assistance and "repair". I've had the plan for years and thankfully I have never needed them, but I think I know what to expect if I do.

- justmeExplorerAfter talking to Frank at Good Sam Road Assistance, we were able to clear up all miss-understandings and GSRA offered a more than reasonable resolve. At this point I can recommend them as a worthwhile and responsive organization that actually cares about the RV community. Also, my experience with the people who coordinate the phone calls with the service folks who end up helping us has been top notch as well. It took one hour for a service truck to respond to my distress in the middle of nowhere on I-80 in Nevada. Under those conditions, I could not ask for better. I will continue to use GSRA with the comfort of knowing that they are there to help when you need them.

That is not true. I lost an axle bearing and I paid for the service call and the repair. It cost me $1100 total. I sent the bill to Good Sam Road side assistance and they rejected the entire bill. They told me that I should see if Good Sam Extended Warranty or any other policy should cover the repair. I sent the bill to Good Sam Extended Warranty and at first said that I did not have pre-approval and rejected my claim. I then informed them the Good Sam Roadside Assistance sent the repair vehicle and they repaired it and I thought that would suffice pre-approval. Good Sam Extended Warranty paid half the bill leaving me with the other half that included the service call.
neal10a, thank you for your post.
As indicated in the Good Sam Roadside Assistance Member Benefit Brochure (available at http://www.goodsamroadside.com/images/pdf/GRA31138.pdf):
“The purpose of the Good Sam Roadside Assistance program is to provide roadside assistance, in the event of a disablement of any vehicle in the possession of either you or any allowable family member under this program, which is required to enable that vehicle to either proceed safely under its own power, or to be towed to the nearest professional service center for repair. This benefit is not intended to be used in lieu of routine maintenance or needed repairs on your vehicle.”
Expressed another way, we will tow you to a repair facility, or we will “bring the repair facility to you” in the form of a mobile mechanic. Your Good Sam Roadside Assistance membership covers the mobile mechanic service call, you cover parts and labor. This is similar to you being towed to a repair facility where you would pay a mechanic to repair your RV.
If you have additional questions, please send me a private message and I will contact you.
Thank you for your membership.

Good Sam Roadside Assistance
Evidently Good Sam Road Assistance and Good Sam Extended Warranty are different companies that do not talk to each other. This leads me to believe that self-insurance is a much better way to go. Seems like Good Sam is quick to take my money is slow paying a claim if you can talk them into it..... - 10forty2ExplorerOn October 5, 2014, on the way back from an awesome vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC, we experienced a blowout on I-40. While at Myrtle Beach, my wife and I had visited Camping World and had purchased the Good Sam Membership, thinking that we had purchased Roadside Assistance as well....apparently it was not explained to us by the sales clerk good enough for me to understand that I was only buying the privilege of calling myself a Good Sam member. We found out the hard way that we did NOT have Roadside Assistance while sitting in the emergency lane of I-40 with traffic flying by. We have since enrolled properly... I hope... ;-)
HOWEVER... with that said, even though we were not covered by Roadside Assistance, I have to say, the girl on the phone with us from Good Sam Dispatch was top notch!! She explained that we did not have the coverage, but was still able to help us by dispatching Black's Tires out of Castle Hayne, NC to bring two new tires and install them roadside....eventually getting us home safely. I can't say enough good things about our experience with Good Sam that day as well as the professional technician that was dispatched from Black's Tires.
My only disappointment was that we did not know that we had not purchased Roadside Assistance at the time. An expensive lesson to us that we need to verify the fine print in ALL transactions, but one that we fortunately lived to tell about!! Travel On!! - darsbenExplorer II

Revconguy, darsben…Thank you for your posts.
The purpose of the Good Sam Roadside Assistance program is to provide roadside assistance…which is required to enable the vehicle to either proceed safely under its own power, or to be towed to the nearest professional service center for repair.
We strive to achieve this objective when responding to a great variety of possible roadside assistance situations. For example, consider a situation where you, our member, call Good Sam Roadside Assistance Dispatch to request RV roadside assistance, and Dispatch, after gathering information regarding the nature of your disablement, decides to send a Mobile Mechanic. If the Mobile Mechanic is unable to resolve the disablement, following your callback to Dispatch, we will dispatch a service provider to tow your RV to the nearest professional service center capable and willing to repair your RV.
Again, our objective is to assist you to proceed safely under your own power, or tow you to the nearest professional service center for repair.
If you have additional questions, please send me a private message and I will contact you.
Thank you for your membership.
