"HD" is more real than most marketing nomenclature, but still marketing
verbiage and misleading

Real as that it does define it as 'not' the +6K GVWR lower class half
ton. Nor is it the regular half ton (+7K GVWR).

It is a +8K GVWR fake half ton, of which will change soon to be a higher
GVWR

But not to be confused with other marketing badging. Like 'Max Tow' or
'HD tow package', etc...those do NOT change the GVWR that the suffix
on 1500HD does. That changes the GVWR to +8K

Purely for those who insist on ONLY a half ton. So the OEM's oblige...

Why this OP is asking...Exactly what is a Chev 1500HD

Why ask anyone looking for help: "Which half ton do you have". Ditto
advisors who say 'sure you can'...which half ton are they referring to...


Example is that I got many PM's and one especially desperate and going
to sue...

That one guy who wanted to sue burned up his diff following advice
give on this portal

He followed the recommendation of one poster/advisor who has a fake
half ton (HD) and advised that any half ton can do it, as he does all
the time with no problems

Turns out the lurker has lowest GVWR in the half ton class (+6K GVWR)
and the advisor had a fake half ton in the +8K GVWR. They were using
marketing badging only...

To be specific...that +6K GVWR half ton has a rear GAWR in the +4K
range. The fake half ton has a rear GAWR in the +6K range

Both of them are listed as 'half ton' pickups

My Silverado was the biggest/baddest 'half ton' of it's era at 6,200 GVWR
Which is today's smallest half ton.

Marketing verbiage is a loosey-goosey position. The 1980 GVWR is still the
same GVWR today
