Because of the internet it would appear Ford is denying warranty all the time. Since Ford is still the #1 BRAND, it's apparent that truck buyers aren't concerned.

Google Ram and GM and see how many internet stories there are for them as well. They all do it.

Because Ford takes the extended warranty purchase into account AND it runs longer then the 3/36k warranty.

Ford is the #1 brand because of the F-150 not the Super Duties. The Super Duty guys have had many problems with Ford over the years denying warranties just to get out of fixing them( I lemon lawed 2 trucks, they tried to deny warranty claims and a host of the Ford tricks). Having the extended warranty gets you extra consideration, because they don't want you dumping the warranty and having to give the money back. Right from my Ford mechanics mouth and who's dealership I didn't buy my warranty from and said they look for things they can deny and blame wear and tear or abuse.. PLUS, these trucks are horribly expensive to fix and if you're already set buying one, then protect yourself the best you can. I'd never buy another Super Duty.

That's what I had, an aluminum contractor canopy with side doors and double full length doors in the rear. It made reaching for items much easier than having to climb in.

Great thoughts!! I forgot about getting into parking garages. With my van I've been used to not being able to get in. Though there was the "miracle in Boston" when my van fit in a parking garage and later learned their signs said the garage height was a few inches shorter than my van. I'm sure they leave a few inches for people like me who drove in anyway.

I'll need to measure the height. I think its still a bit shorter than my van, but that is a consideration for the cap!

I bought a Softopper over the summer and have been extremely happy with it. I'm in your boat - most of the time I want an open bed. It works better as a truck and looks better, and I don't have impaired visibility. But for trips with the family it's awesome to have a weather protected huge cargo area out back.

It takes about 5 minutes to put up or down. You can leave it down on the truck and it basically looks like a rolled up tonneau cover behind the cab in that position (with storage bag). Or pull two cotter pins and remove it entirely. When deployed I've had no leakage except around the tailgate as you would with any topper, and I've had it in temps down below zero with no issues aside from the vinyl getting a bit stiff. I've also run it at 82 mph on the freeway on a windy day with no flapping at all.

Have the Thule tracks + square bars on my Leer cap and have been carrying the kayaks on them. They work well. And it's nice to have a big, secure, lockable and relatively dry space back there for our bikes too.

With your F350, I would go cab level as anything taller will make it harder to get stuff on top.

Also the older Thule bars can be easily removed, but they don't make them anymore. The new ones are more solid, but more trouble to get off. Dunno what Yakima offers but understand they will fit in a Thule track.

On the other hand, have also been thinking about getting an Al cap with side doors on our next truck ...

My personal preference is cab height as I think it looks the best... but that's my opinion, not yours. I do have Yakima racks on my cab height canopy and those still require a step stool to reach and I'm not short.

I wish I had bought Leer as with my current Snug-Top canopy, I'm no longer impressed with Snug-Top... quality has really gone downhill.

If you get a cab height cap, you will still fit in many parking garages and car washes adding bars or a taller cap will limit you. My F250 originally towed a toy hauler and I thought of getting a taller cap to help aerodynamics, but decided the the convenience of cab high was better a trade off.

I've owned a full-size van for the last 22 years, so a cap is just what I'm used to. Though looking forward to a separation between the cab where we are and the back of the truck (unlike my van). I will feel more comfortable hauling my generators and a tank of gas when I need to.

I'm thinking I will get a bedrug as well. Had Line-X on my Toyota, I wasn't very impressed. It was expensive and it chipped pretty easy when I threw heavy stuff in the bed. I am looking towards the BedTred series. I want to go to a dealer and compare the two.

Jealous about the FL trip. We have to wait until February for our trip... I'm cold already!!!
