LOL the poor mileage reports come from the honest owners. Ford was even investigated for inflating the EPA FUEL mileage numbers.

Don,
Lets keep this the no spin zone.... Ford was investigated for inflating the mpg on a Hybrid car which there's a ton a variables at play that affects the fuel economy. Corrections were made and owners were compensated.
BTW... Your wanted at the 2016 Crash Test thread.
Troy g I ve up already pal, here do some reading if you can 2015 non eco facts.
Ward's calls out Ford's EcoBoost engines for their crummy fuel economy
Don,
I briefly scanned over your link and don't see where it states ford was investigated for inflating EPA fuel mileage per your statement I questioned. Please advise!- GrooverExplorer III have a little different endorsement on the 2013 EcoBoost. I bought one for my daughter to pull her horse trailer with. We like it so much that I just bought a 2016 for myself. She has a little over 40,000 miles on it and just wore out the factory tires and the only problems have been a few with the tire pressure monitoring system but they seem to have gone away now. The main complaint on the truck is that it is really soft in the rear and doesn't control loads or trailers as well as I expected it to and nowhere nearly as well as my 2016. We have added Rancho 9000 shocks and airbags, both helped but I am still looking for more. We are going to install LT load range C tires this weekend. I ordered my 2016 with those so that might be part of the difference. The 2016 also has the 6 1/2' bed, max towing package and FX4 package where the 2013 is a base XLT 2wd with only the 302 option package. I wish I knew how much each contributes but don't. So far the 2016 doesn't seem to be doing as well on fuel but I love it other than that. I recently started a business and am using it to pull a 22' flatbed that is right at the rated towing capacity of the truck and it is doing well. I know that I really should have gotten a 250 but decided to start the business a month after ordering the truck so I am using what I have.
In my opinion the most undervalued option (and easily retrofitted) on the 2013 is remote start. The best part about it is that even with "manual" climate control in the 2013 it will still make a call on whether defrosters or air-conditioning is needed and activate them on startup. My daughter is in college ROTC and has to drive to PT every morning at 5:00. She can start the truck a few minutes before she gets to it on frosty mornings and the windows are clearing when she gets in. That makes it a lot safer to drive. Likewise, on hot days after field maneuvers she doesn't have to get in a 150 deg cabin. I know that she sounds spoiled but she is paying her own way through med school with scholarships and ROTC so I felt that she deserved it. - mich800Explorer

It is when you have the power to do other things a truck is supposed to do. Remember two different markets. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorer21 mpg is nothing to brag about. Like I said the reason the F150 will be fallowing Ram and adding a diesel is the up coming new MPG regulations on pickups. FCA just happened to have a good reliable small diesel in house.
My 4X4 pick up was running 28 mpg @77 mph on the highway all day long. Now with the GDE tune I'm running 30 @ 77 mph, no BS believe it or not.
GDE is working on the baby Dmax doing tune testing right now. As a OEM provider of ECM programs they know exactly where to make changes, to maximize fuel economy and wake up the engine without compromising its life.
Don - drittalExplorerLike any truck, HWY MPG will greatly depend on how fast you drive.
Ecoboost is no exception. If my wife was driving our old 2012 w/ 3.73 she was lucky to break out of the 15's because she drives 79-80. 75 it was 17's. 70 it was 19's. Worse in the winter, better in the summer. Our 2011 with 3.31 was about 1mpg better at those speeds.
Drive like the EPA test, ie. slow and easy, and there is no problem achieving EPA numbers... unless you have a problem. - FordloverExplorerOur Edge Ecoboost delivers EPA sticker #'s very reliably. My wife only runs local errands like shuttling the kids back and forth to school and her to work. She works 2 miles away from home, and the kids school is about 5 miles. Nothing but stoplights and traffic between here and there. We've had it 4 years and it has 40K miles, nearly all stop and go. City MPG is 21 and the dash shows 20.5-20.9 all the time.

Not towing, I get the sticker mpg figures for my truck..
Towing, it's 10 mpgs.
I'm supposed to get 13 city, 21 hwy 15 combined.
That's pretty much what I get.. Yes, I'm going by the computer and it's not that far off from the fill ups. A couple of tenths either way for usually a 20+ gallon fill up (36 gallon tank).
I know most of you only want "hand calculated" figures, so blast away, I don't care.. :) I round 'down' anyway.. ;)
Mitch
Pretty close to mine, too. Towing about 10.5, City mixed 15 to 17 (winter vs summer), about 19-20 unloaded open highway. This with the 3.73 gearing and the rest of the Max Tow/Max payload upgrades. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorer

Ward's calls out Ford's EcoBoost engines for their crummy fuel economy - riven1950ExplorerMine gets better mileage than my 2004 4.6 and tows sooooo much better. That is why I love it! !
- tragusa3ExplorerI'm pleased with my mileage for what is at tap with my right foot! My average on my commute to work is 19mpg. Mixed driving, but leans more to highway. I do have to be very conscious of my right foot in order to get that. It is amazing how fast the number can plummet if I get the least bit aggressive.
I have always thought that Ford chose the wrong marketing scheme with this engine. Well, maybe the right one for sales, but the wrong one to represent the engines best abilities.
I didn't buy mine for fuel mileage. I bought it to tow my trailer at low rpm's with a huge torque band. That it does.
