F350 SRW Hitch Pin Weights

Are those 2500# and 3000# pin weight numbers wet pin OR DRY?

Rough numbers for shopping purposes.........figure 20% of toyhaulers GVWR for wet pin weight.

If that number is more than your trucks 'available' payload (actual payload left AFTER subtracting weight of all passengers, fuel, stuff in cab/in bed) then that toyhauler is too big cause if truck can't handle that wet pin then other truck ratings will be overloaded (Truck GVWR, GCVWR, RAWR and/or REAR Tire MAX Load Rating)

Provided you want to stay within 'Ratings'
If not........do like 1000s have done. BUY the one you WANT and hook up.

We've towed our living quarters with a friends '15 f350 SRW long bed 4x4 comfortably with its heavy 3300+ pin weight...

We weighed ours and the pin weight came in at 3086 lbs. The truck handles it fine. I did add airbags for a bit more flexibility but I'm still playing around with the right pressure when it comes to a perfectly level truck vs. keeping some weight on the overload springs to it isn't too bouncy.

The pin weight ratings keep getting higher and higher each passing year as each manufacturer tries to out do the other. So the newer the better. And the payload rating of an F350 SRW will vary considerably depending on configuration; cab type, bed length, engine, 4x4 or 4x2.

My 2012 F350 SRW LB FX4 6.7 tows our 35' 5er great. But the pin weight is below 3,000.

GVWR is over 11k lbs and RAWR is over 7K lbs on current Class 3 SRW's. I can assure you that the wheels are the weakest link which results in that rating followed by suspension - The rest of the truck can and will handle more. If I already owned the truck, I would not pause at spending 3-4K in wheel and suspension upgrades to get the rating I needed to load that rear axle up to 9K lbs. However, I really don't think I would purposely buy a truck knowing I had to do upgrades from the start. You're safe with 7K lbs on the front Dana 60 and rear Sterling 10.5" axles with stock components. If you think you will be heavier, then you need to scale up the truck or scale down the RV.

Yes "AMAZING" , this man knows more about trucks and RV's than MOST on here and if you really want any valuable information you should clear your ears and learn from his experience and factual statements.

I can see you already have your mind made up with what you are going to do.

And sometimes that is the reality when wanting to go big with an RV.

I'm sure OldBiscuit is a fine person and knows quite a bit about trucks and RVs. He appears to be well liked here on RV.net.

I thought I expressly made the point of what I did and did not want with this thread. Its a free world and anyone can voice their opinion about things here but we all know how wars get started on this forum. Chevy/Ford/Ram. Dually/SRW. Gas/Diesel. Anyone asks a question about them and in no time, the arguments begin. I was trying my best to make it clear what I wanted to know and hoping if we stayed specifically on topic, no fights would break out.

Many here have come to expect they will get more than they ask for here on RV.net. Its certainly not the forum or moderators' fault. Its usually some individuals who feel the need to boast by showing how much knowledge they have or how big of a camping rig they drive. For me personally, I don't care.

As you know I'm a big XLR fan. I had a Road Warrior 30C before my current XLR. Pin there loaded and ready for travel was about 3100# with the garage empty and 2900# with 2k back there. My current 395AMP is 2850# with the garage empty and 2700# loaded. My SRW 350 has hauled both about 20k miles total and I have never had an issue. No worries whatsoever. The XLR is a touch more stable with the garage loaded than the 30C was. I think it's the triple axle and Tuson sway control that makes the difference.

All that said, the only downfall I've found is not what those who love to panic on the forums usually cite. No issue with braking, sway, or hills. NONE. It's rough roads that makes the ride no fun. It's not something that causes alarm or "white knuckle" towing. It does however provide a really rough ride on my SRW. We recently took a trip from MA to FL and made the mistake of taking I95 down. WOW, is that road beat to hell until you get past VA. NC down was OK but VA and north gave my truck and those of us in it a beating. Took the western route back 77 to 81 to 84 to 87 and it was a beautiful hauling experience.

I've posted my numbers here before but just to add to the above, I'm under on truck GVWR, GAWR, and tire ratings. Over on GCWR but not a concern for me.
