F450 vs F350 SRW payload

I'm looking at the technical specs of the 2020 Super Duty and found the F450 4x4 has a curb weight of 8,587 lbs which is 855 lbs more than the F350 SRW crew cab long box with the 6.7 Powerstroke. The SRW long box crew cab can be equipped to have a gvwr of 12,400 lbs. The F450 has a GVWR of 14,000 lbs. The payload of the F450 appears to be only 745 lbs more than that of a SRW F350 crew cab long box.

  • Ford chose to limit the F450 pickup to 14K lbs GVWR yet has the F450 chassis cab up to 16.5k lbs. Because the F450 pickup uses heavier duty components than the F350 DRW pickup, you may actually see less payload available due to the cap that Ford put on it. I see it strictly as marketing choice rather than the actual capacity of this truck.
  • How do the axle ratings compare? Payload ratings tend to not mean much in a lot of cases. This is probably one of those cases.
  • There is a post on a Ford diesel forum from a guy who just got his loaded 2020 Lariat CCLB, single rear wheel with the 6.7 and 12,400 GVWR. He posted a picture of his payload sticker and it is 4561 pounds. My 17 King Ranch dual which I sold last month was a little over 5300. My new truck will be here in the next couple of days and I'm anxious to what its sticker has to say. That Lariat has the snow plow package, moon roof, FX4 off road package and power take off, all things I won't have on my Platinum.

There was another guy who just got his 2020 F450 Limited. He posted a picture of his sticker and his payload is 4743, 182 pounds more than that single rear wheel F350 Lariat. Can't wait to see the comments on that one.
