Fan ideas

2001 Lance Lite 915, no AC. I'd like to get a fan that will circulate air throughout the camper, and needs to work in the cabover too.

I only have the large emergency hatch, and one other roof vent in the dinette/galley side. Because of this it can also become pretty dark inside, would rather not not block all the light with a tinted cover.

What would you recommend? Would a fantastic fan in the roof vent pull well feom the cabover hatch? Or should i get th window/mobile fan from Fantastic? Any other ideas? Thanks!
  • Just be careful if you use a powerful fan (IE fantastic fan) on exhaust mode.
if you have the vent open in the bathroom and flush the toilet, if your tank spells it will stink up the whole camper real quick
  • We only have a Fantastic Fan in our new camper. We didn’t order our 2018 camper with a AC as it isn’t required.
I live in south eastern BC and we regularly have temps in the high 90’s and over 100 on occasion in July and August.
Where I worked for close to 40 years I operated huge industrial fans for smoke elimination in conjunction with baghouses. The basic idea for the camper is to have a small opening hole ( your bedroom window) and a larger exist opening (the Fantastic fan vent cover open 100%) and regulate the airflow with the fan speed.
The trick to keeping a breeze going in your camper, so close all windows and vents.
Then slightly open the side window (s) beside your cab over bed, or the hatch over the cab over bed. Don’t open them wide open, and not all of them.
Then start your fantastic fan and run it at about 1/2 speed. ( you can run the fan as fast as you like but I run at about 1/2 speed.)
We have a brand new fan with a remote control so I lay in bed and slow it down to the point I can hardly hear it, which is about 1/2 speed.
The vent cover over the fan stays at 100% open, it’s just the fan speed is slowed down.
My wife loves a cold ( COLD) bedroom and I like a extra quilt on the bed, so at night we only have her side window open and the fan running.
We have yet to think we made a mistake in not ordering our new camper with out a A/C. When we were getting ready to go out and kick the wheels of our new truck camper we made a list of wants and not wants. We figured the A/C was a waste. In our prevous three 5th wheels we only ever started the A/C once a year to ensure it worked, so why spend the extra on one with the new camper. I did run the A/C fan doing the same thing I do now with the Fantastic Fan, but not the A/C component. Our new camper is wired for a A/C so if we choose later we can install one.
Yup Fantastic Fan is all you need, and do add the Max Air covers over all your openings, they sure help when it rains and or you can travel with a vent open and not worry about it getting sucked off the top of your camper by a semi passing you on the Hwy.

  • I have the Fanatic vent model 7350. it has everything from variable speed to auto close. Ours is in vent over bunk. at night we only open windows on both sides of bunk with fan on exhale.
If it starts to rain we open center window behind truck cab and close bunk side windows.
during day we close bunk windows and open either door or a back window to get flow through whole camper.

    1) its always on exhale. (even then you need to clean screen about every 2 days)
    2) The thermostat part works nice where it will slow down as heat level inside drops.
    3) the remote is nice.
    4) the ability to turn off the rain sensor is nice. Sometimes at night as the fan slows down dew can collect on the sensor forcing the lid to close (even when it has a cover on it). the thing is not exactly quiet when it cranks closed and it will wake you up. Plus it gets hot real quick when that air flow stops.

I also installed the correct vent cover (fantastic cover) so the lid opens all the way.

I first had in it installed in my Wolf Creek. Had to have motor replaced (free) because it sounded like it has crickets in it.
Than we had it moved to Arctic Fox (did they move just the control guts?).
Had to have that motor replace also for same squeak. But its been squeak free since.

in national campground where you can't use generators at night, this fan allows us to sleep (well) up to around 85 deg (at night) Above that point even moving air don't help.

Good ole Fantastic Fan will suck the air through no issue. Get the one with the reversing switch. The top is semi-clear so the light will come in just fine.

Your back vent should be pre wired for an ac unit so the wiring will be there to connect the fan.

    Good to know, thanks.

On the wiring, there is a 120v outlet with the original sticker covering , there wouldn't be any 12v wiring will there?
  • I have done a lot of hot weather camping. Unfortunately my fantastic fan is a little use. Let me explain with an example of a couple of days ago. The camper cooked all day and everything inside warmed to about 90 degrees. By 10 at night the outside temps had finally dropped to about 80 degrees. Windows open and fantastic fan on high did virtually nothing. It would have taken hours or a bigger drop in outside temperature to make any difference. So I ran the A/C for close to an hour. By then inside and outside temps were in the high 70s. I went to sleep with windows open and a small fan pointed at me. That same or a similar scenario has happened a great many times. Once the camper and contents heats up, the fantastic fan does virtually nothing unless there is a big drop in the outside temperature.
  • I'm a big fan :-) of MaxxFan, the one I put in our camper has a remote to open and shut and 10 speeds plus reverse. I keep the remote by the bed so if I want more or less air in the middle of the night I can have it with a push of a button. Draws very little power on the lower speeds but keeps the air going. The housing that opens up can be used in the rain or even going down the road yet collapse to about the height of a standard roof vent.

  • I have a fantastic fan over the dinette and the heikki hatch over the cabover on my Lance 1055. Even on low it draws in enough cool air over the bed for a cool nights sleep. If we have both of us and all 4 dogs we use the middle setting. Get a roof top vent cover that will allow you to have the vent open and fan running in rain, snow etc. It makes a big difference.
