- bigcitypopoExplorerthe sound diffrence is huge.. the fantastic fan is super quiet... and spind slower... the fan blade pitch is spot on...
I like the vortex for the bathroom... perfect quick mod, no fuss. it was worth the fuss for the sleeping areas - aarond76ExplorerLet me know the sound difference you see between the fantastic fan and the vortex. We have a fantastic van in our bathroom and an open vent in our bedroom. I am interested in added the cheap $54 vortex to the bedroom vent and seeing as how you have both I'd like your first hand experience on the soun d difference between the two. Thanks.
- bigcitypopoExplorerOk, so the TPO roof is cool. And then not so cool. Adhesive bonds soo good, you run the risk of tearing it. So I did the best I could at removing the adhesive. It's a alpha product, no vendors around me, so I called my rv dealer... He advised to remove as much as you can, apply the self leveling adhesive to the area. Place the fan, then apply to exterior as well.
The second vent came off like a champ, I used putty tape there, because I had a clean surface, then gooped the stuff on, I will touch up a bit tomorrow. Then mount the max airs.
Phew. I'm tired... And now a certified rv electrician... Or fan tech. Lol pics to follow - bigcitypopoExplorerI have a vortex for the bathroom. It's installed and done with. It's noisy. Not adequate for sleeping, especially for the kids bunk house. The fantastic fan merely replaces the entire vent.. I'm a very handy guy. My last trailer had a epdm roof. I'm very familiar with that product, sealants, coatings.
I just don't want to frig it up. - aarond76ExplorerIf you bought the vortex fan that I linked to you should only have to replace the insert in your existing vent. You do not remove anything up on the roof at all. You would only be changing the roof portion out if you bought and actual Fantastic Fan brand fan. What exactly did you buy?
- bigcitypopoExplorerThis self leveling lap sealant I bought (dicor) can I put a bead between the roof and fan.. First time I've worked with this type of roof.
- brulazExplorerI've used 3M 4200 Marine/RV sealant/caulk instead of tape. Works well.
- christopherglenExplorerReplacing anything on the roof is 98% prep work, 2% instant gratification. I used the tape under the cover, and far more dicor then needed on top of the seam, and screws. This is a good time to put a vent cover on top while you are up there. It keeps the rain out of the vent if it is open. I have them on both of my power vents.

I did the same thing on our then new TT. The worst part is getting the old sealant off the orig. skylight.
Otherwise it's very straight forward but I would not use the cheesy foam gasket that comes with it. it's just one more thing to fail.
Mine have been in nearly 10 years and have worked great and never leaked.
Should I use the putty tape stuff? any recommendations?
I only used Dicor. - bigcitypopoExplorer

Someone also makes an insert like a fantastic fan that fits into your existing vent. Probably not quite as nice but much cheaper and you do not have to take out the old vent. You just take out the inside guts and replace.
