Under the HD package it makes no mention of 7 lug wheels as previously they did show 7 lug wheels before the aluminum bodies were used.
I think you are right. Looking at the pictures of new F150HD's, they all seem to have 6 lugs unlike my old F150HD. Looking at my F150 specs on Ford fleet, it does not mention the number of lugs under the axles specifications. However, it does show that the ring gear is slightly larger at 9.75 and lube capacity is more at 5.65. It does not give any more specs like the old Ford fleet data sheets would. - brulazExplorerThe new Al bodied F150HDs dropped the 7lug axle and wheels. They do have a special 18" HD wheel though, that comes with the LT tires, but it's 6 lug.

My thoughts exactly. I can find no mention of them on the aluminum trucks.ShinerBock wrote:

When did Ford go back to the 7 lug axle?
The highest base payload offered in a Ram 1500 with an Ecodiesel is about 1,600 lbs according to the Ram Bodybuilder. Unfortunately Ram does not offer an HD version of their 1500 and you cannot get the Ecodiesel in an HD 2500. Ford is coming out with a diesel and they make a 7 lug HD version of their F150. Not sure if they will make an HD version of the F150 diesel. They would be stupid not to.
Only the F150HD has a 7 lug axle with larger axle shafts. The regular F150 still has the 6 lug and of course the Super duty is an 8 lug.

From what I understand the New F150 (2015 and up) dropped the 7 lug axle and uses the same 6 lug style on their HD F150's now.
Thanks!

My truck can pull my boat at any speed I want. I have pulled some moderate hills in Michigan towing the boat without breaking a sweat and will be taking it to Tenn to my BIL's this Sept. so we will see how it handles the mountains on I-75 through Kentucky and Tenn.. But I do not think it will have a problem at all.

The lil economy diesel isn't going to win any trailer races. I bought the ED for economy & moderate towing. I generally only tow a TT at 65 and climb grades at 55 and am totally fine with that.
In fact when I bought the truck I had no idea I was going to this business with it. But opportunity arose and since live close to the Airstream's mfg plant and they are all dry & easier to tow bumper pulls it works well. I also do others but their is plenty of smaller and mid size work. - ShinerBockExplorer

I'm towing a 6800# boat without any problem at all. I towed an RV of about the same weight for my BL in Tenn and she didn't miss a beat. Remember this engine has the same HP/TQ ratings as the 7.3 and 5.9 did back in the day! No one had a problem towing with those engines back then now did they.
We seem to forget that given the almost 1000 ft lb tq ratings we have now!
Don
I did. My old 95 5.9L was a slug compared to my 6.7L or my old 3.5L Ecoboost. Don't get me wrong, the thing was reliable as hell and always got me there (eventually) when I had a load behind her, but it was not going to win any races in stock form. Nor was I able to go up any mountain road I wanted to while keeping the speed limit even with the much slower highways speeds back then.
After modifying the fuel plate, the fuel pump, a set of performance injectors, and governor spring kit she was pushing about 350-375 hp. Then I can go up just about any hill I wanted while keeping the speed limit. But in stock form, yes I did have problems going up some hills towing.
Although, to be fair, for some people doing 30-40 mph up a 7% grade is not a problem. To me it is. Everyone has different expectations.
