The thing that you are missing is that some of the load is carried on the front axle. Nobody ever claimed that I, or anyone else, could hang 2,312 pounds off the rear bumper. Some of every pound in the cab is carried by the front axle, for example. 1,800 pounds in the bed is more than I will ever need with this pickup. That is why I like the payload rating.
