The trend with RAM trucks is they continue to outsource there engines and transmissions.
Says the Ford man, who built ALL of Ford's diesel engines for years and years? Nav who? VM diesel is owned by Fiat,as in "in house". Our 8 and 9 speeds are ZF transmissions built by us using their design with our input. So by that standard the new Ford/GM transmissions coming down the pike some time late 2014-2015 are not in house then right Troy?
Yep we use the Cummins 5.9 and now 6.7 to the ENVY of Ford and GM. Hell Ford even bought up Cummins stock in an effort to get their hands on their engines. Didn't work out to well for them and they soon sold off their shears in Cummins.
Fiat had joint ventures with GM and Ford long before Chrysler. So whats the point of your post Troy?

Point is Chrysler Detroit/Corporate seams to be on the loosing end of the Fiat Corporate takeover when it comes to growing their US engineering department. It's your powertrain engineering group or lack of with Chrysler US that will have a negative impact in the long term IMO.
Careful with the envy topic as I'm sure Fiat is kicking the tire about putting one of their own engines into the RAM and kicking cummins to the curb. Because I'm sure Fiat thinks they have a better engine. :W- Engineer9860ExplorerI'm still looking for my grey Polo shirt.

Aloe vera; yes Troy, that is what I recommend, because aloe vera works great for burns. :B
Good one...:B But it sounds like your speaking from experience! :W- Perrysburg_DodgExplorer
Well this is what I see when I build a truck. See a 3.6 anywhere?

They also asked them to work with our engineers on the 9 speed.
Which 9 speed would that be? Cause your current 9 speed is a ZF unit...
ZF 9HP
Note this:
The ZF 9HP is a nine-speed automatic transmission, designed but not built by ZF Friedrichshafen AG subsidiary ZF Getriebe GmbH in Saarbrücken.

What part of work with US don't you understand. The ZF 9 speed is a Fiat/Chrysler design as ZF never had a 9 speed before we asked for their help engineering one. It is never ever going in anything other then a Fiat/Chrysler vehicle without the OK from Fiat/Chrysler.
Go screw up a Ford thread DA

In addition, Chrysler needs far more of the transmissions than ZF plans to make. Design choices that make sense for production of 50,000 transmissions a year may not make sense for production of 200,000 per year. To pump out the number of transmissions Chrysler will need, some changes had to be made.
Mr. Kirk said that the partnership with ZF had been mutually productive; while Chrysler owns the intellectual property of any changes they make to the transmissions, they do keep ZF informed. Chrysler can patent any of their changes and methods, including the software and controls, and has some internal motivation to improve the transmissions and their production methods to maintain balance with ZF.
Standards for both manufacturers are high; and both ZF and Chrysler use the same end-of-line test centers, driven by the same software.

Hate to rain on your parade but the Eco-Diesel is only a $2850 up charge over the Hemi your pile of cash just got a whole lot smaller. LMAO
Hate to rain on your parade but I went over to ram trucks.com and built a 2014 SLT crew cab and the Diesel is a $4000 option over the base engine. The Hemi costs $1150 over the base. OUCH!
For a 2014 F150 XLT Supercrew, the 5.0 costs $1000 over the base and the Ecoboost costs $2095.
I know which one I'd pick day in and day out. I suspect America will agree with me.
