I believe you missed the point. There is opinion and there is fact.otrfun wrote:
I think white is the best color as I believe it is the most popular color in the world. :) And I have a red truck and red car.
I would think the following statements would be nearly impossible to prove in a court-of-law without a qualifier. These statements (by themselves) would be classified as opinion or hearsay:
Ford is the best truck.
Red is the best color.
With few exceptions the ones that sell the most are usually best. You don't sell boatloads of something if it's inferior in many ways at all. There are exceptions (hamburgers, computers, phones, utilities, etc) but for commodities (which, lets face it, cars/trucks are) the best sells the most.
In your opinion itguy08, if something is the best selling, it IS simply the best. Ok, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I certainly don't agree.
I ask you this. Is everything in your house and garage the best selling items in their respective categories? I'm going to go out on a limb and say probably not. So, why would YOU settle for anything less than the best (your quote: best selling = the best)?
Me, I much prefer to enjoy the spice of life and have a say about what is the "best" regardless what anybody or the numbers say.

The term "best" covers a lot of territory. The Camry sells because it represents a combination that appeals to a great number of buyers, price, features, Toyota reputation etc. but that doesn't come close to making it the best car in the world. That's like saying a Timex is a better watch than a Rolex because it sells more. - TargaExplorerI'll go back to a diesel once they have proven reliability without the need of a seperate fuel system.

Your use of "best" without a qualifier is somewhat provocative and mis-leading.CT51 wrote:
Why yes, the Camry would be the best. Why? Because it sells the most so it's best for the most people. I don't even like Toyota and I'll concede that. And the best small car would be the Focus for 2 years running. Why? It sold the most worldwide. :)
What really lit me off was the statement that a Ford has to be better because they sell more. So, a Camry has to be the best mid sized car? Corolla has to be the best small car? Good cars for sure, but definitely not for me.
I hate WalMart with a passion but I'll concede they are the best retailer. Why? Cause they fill the needs of the most people.
One could easily prove these statements:
Ford is the best selling truck in America.
Ram is not the best selling truck in America.

1500 Ram diesel
Nice review ,I think they like it and clears up some points on why Ram did not use the 5.0 Cummins - RobertRyanExplorer

I'll clear the crystal ball. I see Sergio canning Chrysler and Dodge and it being Ram, Fiat, Jeep and maybe Alfa. There is pretty much 0 equity in Chrysler and Dodge brands. The only thing really keeping them in the black is Jeep and Ram. Last quarter sales of cars were down for them in just about every segment. I believe there was little to no growth for them YOY in cars but could be wrong.
He is doing that Globally. Probably end up with Jeep outside NA, the rest are Fiat divisions. - itguy08Explorer

Point is Chrysler Detroit/Corporate seams to be on the loosing end of the Fiat Corporate takeover when it comes to growing their US engineering department. It's your powertrain engineering group or lack of with Chrysler US that will have a negative impact in the long term IMO.
Careful with the envy topic as I'm sure Fiat is kicking the tire about putting one of their own engines into the RAM and kicking cummins to the curb. Because I'm sure Fiat thinks they have a better engine. :W

I could see them dropping Cummins too sometime. They have great Diesels from Europe and it would make sense to build them in house vs pay someone else.
It will be interesting to watch but I think this will not be much different than every other time Chrysler tries to get hitched to someone else. Good in the beginning and then after a while it will peter out. - itguy08Explorer
