Fixing to order new tires. Maxxis 8008 or GY G26?

I was set o Maxxis until I stumbled onto a thread about the Goodyear G26 cargo tire. The GY would be right at $600 and the Maxxis can be had for a little less that $500. I want to go ahead and order before spring gets here. Which way would you go?

  • I almost went with GY Cargo tires, but the load capacity was too low. Check this for your situation. Here is a good place to comapare sizes. I ended going with the Maxxis - and going up one load range.
  • The ever elusive tire question. Everyone has an opinion and some have experience. From everything I have read on this forum it is still just opinion, from bad to good with the same brands. I will be in a position soon also for new tires on my rig and have researched and read other peoples opinions and experiences on all of them and have concluded buy what you think is good and fits your budget. There is absolutely no consensus on "the best tire" that I have found. Good luck.
  • We have Maxxis 8008 ST tires on our rig and we find they are good for 4 years at which time we order and install another set. We don't like to risk having any issues while traversing down the road, after all they are still ST tires and can suffer from over-loading and under-inflation like any other tire. Haven't heard much about the GY G26 tire to comment on their performance.
  • 14 or 15 inch wheels? I would go with Maxxis.
16 inch I would opt for an appropriate LT tire.
  • I've had Maxxis tires on at least one pop-up, a 29' Sunline travel trailer and I put a set on my Minnie last year, before a long trip out west. Unless the Goodyears have higher specs, I'd stay with the Maxxis. But, we can't tell what type of rig you are putting them on and that could make a difference for anyone that knows about the Goodyear tires, which I don't.
