An mdt may not be easier or better than a 15 series truck towing a trailer of 6000 lbs. Depending upon the motor, like my 175/335 IDI 7.3 in my navistar, vs my 255/330 v8 gas in C2500, or my son's 4.8l 300/300 in his 05 1500. For cross country, I'll take pickups, more power, faster traveling etc.
On the other hand, if the trailer is out of balance, sways etc. I would not pull it with a 5 axle class 8 tractor truck.
Their is not a simple yes or no as to which truck is best, assuming the trucks can handle the trailer chassis wise. Now you should power per to your assets speed needs up hills, most HP you can get. If you do not care, then go with a smaller motor, know you will be revving more rpm be it a diesel or gas motor!
