If you want a demo of how the 2.7 Ecoboost does towing 7200 lbs up a good climb at elevation you can watch the Fast Lane Trucks video at the following link:
Ecoboost 2.7 at Ike Gauntlet
With the turbos these EcoBoost engines do well at elevation and overall have good performance. I particularly like the low end torque and how quiet they run down the road at low rpms.
I tow 8K with the 3.5 EcoBoost and it performs well. I have the heavier suspension with the Max Payload option (payload of 2,200) and use a good weight distribution and sway hitch.
If you are towing around 7k ensure you know what your hitch weight is going to be as well as passengers and cargo. Make sure you give yourself enough payload. Pay close attention to the payload and RAWR (rear axle weight rating) on the yellow sticker on the door jamb.
Also, remember those high trailer weight numbers manufacturers like to advertise are for a flatbed with the minimum 10% on the hitch and no frontal area. Travel trailers are more likely to be 12% and maybe 15% on the hitch.
Good luck,
Stu
