You need to re-read that quote in context.

I have the dealer change my filters every 3rd oil change which is 15,000 miles. I don't drive a lot of miles so that's once every 20 months that I change them.

I agree with the comments about doing it right. I was remiss in checking the oil in my last truck, a 05 Dodge diesel until coming home from Texas last year, 1500 miles into the oil change. Wow, I was two quarts low. I filled her up and went on down the road. After another 6000 miles, the oil level was still fine -- hmm. Took it in for another oil change at the dealer. Checked it later in the garage the next day -- two quarts low.

I'm still too lazy to change it myself -- this truck will be at the Ford dealer, but I understand that the oil change people are at the low end of the greasy ladder.
