- BenKExplorerJerry...no different from the vehicles available to anyone today
Take my 2000 Odyssey Mini Van. Soccer mom vehicle bought used
It runs up to 100MPH easily and is where the speed limiter cuts off
It also accelerates better than anything or most anything available in my teen
years (60's). The ones that could back then...made a a fuss in doing
so. My Odyssey just runs up to the limiter and floats along
Ditto today's TV's. My 1980 Silverado, in stock form, had a tough time getting
up to 100MPH.
IT boils down to the drivers risk management decisions (gambling). If it can,
they will... - MFLNomad II

Sportbike riders tend to be younger people, who are more likely to ride faster and take more chances. Also they are more likely to have limited riding experience.
I have to disagree with you, they are more dangerous. They will go super fast in a very short distance! The danger is they don't feel like they are going as fast as they are. You are right about the rider being the factor. The people that buy this type, use them to the potential they are designed for (thus high ins risk). My insurance papers, on my last two have bold print (undesirable insurance risk).
If you have ridden a late model sport bike, you will know what I mean, about not sensing the speed.
I did not mean to turn this humorous thread into a potential arguement. I'll PM you with further friendly discussion.

Just not what it used to be.
Just like a ford always breaking down and dodge guys driving around with the big C sticker in the back window rolling coal all over the place.

You are right about the sportbikes being dangerous. I was kidding about the threading traffic. I go fast when the time and place are right, and do enjoy canyon racing, just not in traffic.
The cost of insurance took many sportbike riders off the road. The ins. industry claimed about 98 percent of first time sport bike riders crashed in the first year.
You are right about the yuppies also. The sad thing is most of them bought their expensive Harleys in their later years, and had no riding experience. Many of them crashed and got hurt, as did their unsuspecting passengers.
My BIL has a F150 Harley, but that is a funny story, too long to tell!

Unfortunately, a lot of truth. I don't ride my Harley very much anymore as most of my old Harley riding buddies are either too old or already gone. I don't much care for the new Village People crowd. - carpetguy2ExplorerSure those rice burners will go flying by me.And I watch grandma pull out and see you really flying.

Shoot, splitting lanes is one of the benefits of a motorcycle. It helps keep traffic moving. I love it.
Will the owner be required to split traffic at a stop light?
Will he have to operate the truck in an unsafe manner and then get mad at someone else when they get into an accident?
Actually Harley riders tend to be less aggressive riders than a lot of the sport bike riders. They don't necessarily ride better, but they are less likely to take too many risks. And they ride a lot slower.
Careful now, FJ12, I don't mind picking on the Harley croud, but I ride a FZ1000, and never ride aggressive, well, unless I'm canyon racing, threading traffic, or blowing the Harleys away!

Blow all you want. When I'm on my old Harley, I'm already where I want to be. :B - MFLNomad II
