Ford F350 2012 - Diesel

I hope to receive input from anyone that might have a 2012 F350 Ford diesel. I am looking at possibly buying this vehicle. It has 34,085 km on it and it is a 1 owner. I know about the Ford 6.0 litre diesels, but this is a newer 6.7 L. The truck is in very nice shape and was used by an RV'er for towing his 5th. Any quirks about this year of vehicle that anyone could comment on? He is no longer going to RV so no longer needs the truck.
It would be great to get your feedback, and much appreciated.

  • Great input from everyone and valuable. Would you know what this truck should be priced at. It is like new and has the FX4 package as well?
Is there a place that I can look online to see what the prices should be?
Is there any place that seniors would post their vehicles for sale, that they no longer drive...perhaps some x-RV's, because I know most really look after their vehicles?
  • I think overall they are a good truck. I may get flamed for this, but you may want to do a search on the high pressure fuel pump issues on the Ford 6.7L engine. These pumps are known to self destruct and fill the entire fuel system full of metal shavings which destroys essentially everything in the fuel system requiring it to be replaced. I have heard this can cost $12k or more to repair. Ford has been known to deny warranty claims for this issue claiming water was present in the fuel even though owners have drained the fuel/water separator and the water in fuel light did not illuminate. The GM Duramax uses this pump as well and has also experienced these failures but it is my understanding that they warranty the issue.

This problem appears to be relatively rare, although exact numbers seem to be a mystery. It is not an issue until it happens to you I guess, although I have read at least 2 claims of this issue on this forum alone.

I ultimately decided not to purchase the Ford 6.7L diesel and this issue played a large part of that decision. I plan on keeping my truck a long time and simply did not want to chance this happening, especially when the truck is off warranty. This may or may not play a part in your decision but you should at least be aware of the potential for this issue.

Good luck and let us know how things work out!
  • I have a '12 Super Duty with 63k miles. It's a great truck with great fuel economy and hands down towing beast. No repairs or issues to date.

    Very satisfied
  • 2012 F-350 DRW with 15,000 miles used mostly for pulling 5er. No problems so far.
  • 2012 F350 6.7 bought new and now 26,000+ miles. Great truck. Tows the 5er great. Very happy with it.
  • No but I know it was posted here on a thread. If you can think up the right search terms you can probably find it.

Ford apparently got a bad batch of outlets. Wait I found my old post on Goggle:

#19N236 - Power Outlet Socket Assembly $24.78 from Tasca

My truck has that issue. Do you happen to know the part # of the outlet?
  • I have a 2012 6.7L F350. The only problems we have had on it were mostly minor. The battery clamp needed to be replaced and the 120V outlet on the back of the console wouldn't hold a plug. They would fall out that was replaced too.

The somewhat more serious problem we had was a broken air intake hose to the turbine. Happened on a Saturday late afternoon of course in New Mexico. We had to be towed to a repair shop and they had to wait until Monday morning to get a replacement part. If it had happened during business hours it would have been a couple of hours to get fixed or less if we made it to a Ford dealer.

Otherwise it's been great. Hauls our 5ver easily up and down mountains.
  • I've owned 2 Ford trucks with the 6.7 diesel engine. The first was an early build 2011 and now a 2013. The 2011 did give me a few issues that the dealer took care of. Every year they make improvements to the engine.
My 2013 has 45,000 km's now. It has been trouble free. I have used a fuel additive since new. You may read about fuel related problems. I get great mileage. The power is incredible. I don't think you'll be disappointed. With that mileage you will still have warranty. If the price is right I wouldn't hesitate.
  • I have that same truck, crew cab 6 3/4 bbox, with 39k miles on it. I bought it with 17k on it last year. Previous owner had installed banks power system, air filter and dual exhaust. I have been very pleased with the truck so far no issues, just tires and oil changes. I did get a recall notice last week for a sensor issue. Rides well and tows my 40' fw like it isn't there. Also very steady in snow. I would give you fuel numbers but i am a bit heavy on peddle.
