Ford injector pump failure

I hope Ford starts to pay attention. Lots of people jumping ship due to their choice of pump and handling of the issues with their pump.

Re your truck, I hope the dealer/tech was just a buffoon. Hopefully your truck is fine and they weren't trying to scam you. I just went through nearly the same thing where a dealer said I needed to replace the fuel system. Took it to another dealer where they replaced the low pressure pump problem under warranty. I keep telling myself the first dealer/tech was simply inept. Bad enough we worry about the pump and Ford but to have to worry dealers will take advantage of that issue is simply sickening.

It's been a while since I checked on my post. Update. Took the truck to an independent for a quote on replacing the fuel pump. Did a lot of tests and said the fuel pump was fine. All the symptoms were normal for a Ford so I guess my dealer in Hutchinson was trying to get in my pocket. Not going back there. I let the BBB complaint ride but they said I didn't have a case so here I set with a Ford that may or may not be junk. Maybe I'll look for another truck but it won't be a Ford and won't be from Hutchinson, Ks.

I love Ford SuperDuty trucks...they are on my short list for my next truck...but only with a Gas motor. Much less drama when you own a gasser. (Gas, oil, spark plugs).

100% correct. I wanted another Super Duty and really had to find a ton of reasons not to buy a 6.7L. Unfortunately it didn`t take long to convince myself and I thank Ricatic for being so up front and honest with his situation. It truly saved me from buying another Powerstroke potential money pit. The other thing that I really got stung with on my 6.0L was extremely poor resale value, which I`m seeing with 6.7L powered trucks in my area now.

The Ford gassers are solid and I too wouldn`t hesitate to buy one if I didn`t pull a 16k fiver and fuel prices weren`t so ridiculous as they are here in Canada. As a matter of fact our newer E-450 cutaway vans are 5.4L equipped and we have a new F-550 with a V-10 on order to replace our nightmare E-450 6.0L. As a side note we recently sent a perfectly good running a 2000 E-450 with a V-10 that was approaching 400k kms with relatively few issues to auction!

On ceramic ball bearings...

Same reason they are no longer on expensive bicycles...mainly pro's
that toss a $20K bike after just a few races.

Noodled it when looking and found tons of busted bearings.

Whizy Bang and the engineers fell for it without really knowing all or enough
about it

Harder than steel and can be manufactured 'rounder' than steel. Sounds cool, right?

Well..not all are pure ceramic and the blend is also important. Then hydrid
ceramic's...

Then what about the cone/cup/race/etc or if cartridge the whole thing is still steel on
many. Softer to lost if the pure benefit of going ceramic. I do not know if
the Ford Turbo's are just ceramic balls or the whole bearing assembly is ceramic


Since harder than steel...they are more sensitive to debris in the lube and most
are GREASED on bicycles. Don't know enough about the these ICE turbos, but most
are engine oil lubed

Ceramic is harder and rounder than steel...but along with that comes brittleness
and is where I've read that the Ford Turbo ceramic ball bearings turning into
dust.

Since engine oil lubed...wonder if those failed ceramic bearing's dust got filtered
TOTALLY or did some get past the filtering system and into the rest of the ICE

So passed on ceramic ball bearings on my road bike. Plus at $2.50/each ball,
a 20 ball bearing cartridge is too expensive for my budget.

I lemon lawed two 6.0 trucks. What a disaster they where. I was getting ready to lemon law a third, but I moved to a state that would not let me lemon law a F350.

12 to 15 grand sounds outrageous, but diesel repairs are far more expensive than their gasoline counterparts.

This happened on my VW TDI passat. Repair cost? 10k. They said bad fuel.. Covered under warranty. 12-15k is not out of the norm for a much larger truck. I now check all the fuel going into on each fill up.

Check your fuel on each fill up. One bad fill can cost you and there are lots of bad fuel out there. More then once I left a station that had bad fuel. CHECK YOUR FUEL EACH FILL UP, bad fuel will grenade these things.

My last tranny guy said his mechanic buddies love the 6.0's. They can buy them dirt cheap and bullet proof them for around 2K. They pull good once correctly setup to live.

I considered it myself but the cost was more like $4-5k to fully bulletproof, but maybe that includes labor they wouldn't incur. There's no doubt they can be found very cheap. Ditto the 6.4 to a somewhat lesser extent.

I thought about having my 2003 6.0L gone through before I ultimately traded it off. Although there are a lot of really good aftermarket solutions to a lot of the issues they are prone to, there are still some critical design flaws that can keep rearing it's ugly head such as there not being enough head bolts/studs per cylinder. I read of several people who installed ARP head studs that eventually blew head gaskets again because of this problem. One other big issue is injector issues that just seem to keep happening. My truck had one replaced under warranty and had 2-3 that were on their way out when I sold the truck. Ford came out with several ficm reprogramming solutions to poor starting and running conditions that ultimately sacrificed the injectors. One other nagging issue that comes to mind is the infamous bedplate oil leak that requires pulling the engine out of the truck to repair. My truck constantly left oil on the garage floor from this leak. I decided that there were simply too many costly issues that could reoccur and moved on.

We have a fleet of 6.0L powered trucks and vans at the City I work at and most of them have been an expensive nightmare. We have a 2006 E-450 cutaway van with 40k miles on it that has had more than $30,000 in engine and transmission repairs in the last 2 years. It's twin has around 70k miles on it and has had a ton of work in the past year as well including 8 new injectors and ficm. It came in on the hook again yesterday for a no start condition. God knows what it will be this time and what it will cost.

Opinions like this one from people with first hand experience is what pushed me to a Cummins rather than trying to work a deal on a problematic Powerstroke.

Trust me, you made the right decision my friend :)
