- CampingN_C_ExplorerBig difference between stopping and stopping for fuel. I would much rather stop at larger rest areas for a leg stretch than a busy truck stop.
Just because you have the extra fuel doesn't mean you're not going to stop, it just changes where you going to stop. - romoreExplorer III guess you Ford guys need all the fuel you can get.:B Seriously, that extra fuel takes away from payload and as was mentioned who can drive that many miles without a break. 35 U.S. gallons gives us all the range we need.
- ktmrfsExplorer IIInice increase, but it looks like the only configuration that gets the 48 gallon fuel tank is the long box crew cab.
When GM went to the 36 gallon tank on the crew cab short box, I often wondered why they didn't have a larger tank on the long box like they had done previously.
36 is nice, but 48 would be awsome for us, but I don't need or want a long box.
now the 7.5 gallon DEF tank, that's nice also. - IdaDExplorerBigger tanks are a good thing as far as I'm concerned. With four ladies along with me I couldn't exploit the range to run without stopping, but it still provides more flexibility. I'd love a 48 gallon tank on my truck.
- DakotaDadExplorerGood move to increase the fuel tank sizes. I can get around just fine on my current tank, but a bigger one would let me be a lot more selective when looking for a place to fill up. And the extra range would be nice. Here out west, places to fill up are sometimes quite a ways apart.
- drittalExplorerYup. Towing I can go 700 miles now without having to look for a gas station. Now I can choose where to stop and fuel and not be a prisoner to my fuel gauge.

I dont see it? Carrying around another 500 pounds, cost, letting it get contaminated with moisture, all for what? Save three cents at the pump? Drive an extra 300 miles? My backside is ready for a break after 300 miles, and there is always fuel available in that distance. Except maybe on the ice roads of northern Canada.
Just because there is 48 gallon capacity doesn't mean you have to fill it... but, I welcome the size increase.
Transfer flow tanks or larger aftermarket tanks wouldn't exist if people didn't want that extra capacity and everyone has their own wants. - cummins2014Explorer

Hm now if others would catch on it would be awesome.
We installed a transfer flow tank to get us some extra miles.
We have 36 below and 50 gallons in the bed.
Makes it so much easier when towing our 5th wheel.

I would agree, unless there is a big reason to carry that much fuel, why bother, and the room lost in the bed. Never have had an issue with just 30 gallons, and been all over the west in some long stretches.
I usually have no problem going 250-300 towing, but I see no need to go that far without stopping, so why haul all that fuel. - SoCalDesertRid1Explorer IIThat's great!
On the older trucks with dual tanks (like my '92 and '97 Fords, '78 Dodge and '77 and '82 GM's), they can carry about 40 gallons. When they went to one tank in the 2000's, the capacity went down to only 25-35 gallons.
Nice to see they're finally getting back to what the trucks could do, 20+ years ago! - donn0128Explorer II
