Read THISin the Detroit Free Press yesterday, which begs the question, why?
After seeing the average price paid for a 2015($44100) one wonders if manufacturers are beginning to finally hit the wall with new vehicle cost. I read stories about increasing popularity of 84 and even 96 month financing, just seems at some point, something's got to give.......
I agree with you.
Financing plans are stretching out, in some cases much beyond the warranty...even some extended warranties. Payment plans of 84 and 96 month duration and lot's of bucks per month, are not uncommon. Geez...talk about potential for economic bubbles that eventually get all of us in financial trouble. Spending beyond means...en masse...makes me shudder and recall the economic events of 2007-08. Have many of us not learned any lessons.
Case in point. A buddy bought a 4WD F 150, 4 door back in 2013. Prices was near the mid 40's in CAD. In his case he has the money to pay in cash...but many don't.
But I was shocked, at the cost of this beautiful F 150. It's a great truck....but the cost of the average new half ton, no matter whether they be GM, Ford, Ram or Toyota...sheesh.
And let's not go to 3/4 or 1 ton jobs...they're even more pricey.
As the original poster said...something has to give. I agree.
I know buyers want super deluxe, but maybe..deluxe and basic is more to their budget.
Also even a basic truck, now is loaded compared to a basic truck back in the mid 90's.
I read on this forum that it's difficult to buy a 2WD truck on the dealer's lot...they pretty well all come with 4WD. Now this is not all the consumers wants. Dealers bring in loaded vehicles...more profit. Factories would rather crank out loaded vehicles...more profits. Not many consumers order...exactly what they want from the factory, anymore. One reason is that you can't order single options...it's for the most part in factory packages, which are pricey and you end up paying for a lot of stuff that comes in the package, that you don't necessarily want.
Want cruise control...well you have to get package B that , which means you also order and pay for...mag wheels, cowboy trim on the seats, the optional ashtray.
So what do we do. Generally cave in and go for the package with no complaints to the dealer/factory. I know. I've done it and I'm sure many others also do it. Get resigned to your fate, bite the bullet and pay for stuff you don't want, because that's the way it is.
Can't get a standard transmission anymore....they all come with automatics. Don't think standards are available anymore, except perhaps Ram on HD models
I know loaded vehicles are what many customers want...but as the old TV show said...you want it...but do you need it ?
Now you can say....you want it, do you really need it...but do you have any options...take loaded...that's all the dealers and factories are offering...for the most part.
