Forest River Flagstaff 26RLWS

DW & I went to the Allentown RV show last night. Walked around for nearly 3 hours looking at dozens of trailers. Didn't like any of them (topic for another time).

On the way out about 8 minutes before closing we spotted the one and only one TT that had a queen bed up front with a window behind the "headboard" (one of the things we love about our current TT), a Flagstaff 26RLWS. Decided to stick our heads in and take a look - this is the first time in 15 years we've seen ANY TT that appealed to us as much as our existing unit.

Does anybody own one of these (or a model in the same Super Lite family)? How's the build/materials quality, features you like/dislike, etc.?

Not ready to pull the trigger yet, just doing some research.............

You will find faster and more specific answers to your questions at the Flagstaff forum.

I am very satisfied with my 27RLWS and am sure that actual owners of the 26RLWS may have similar points of view.
  • We purchases a new Flagstaff Classic Super Lite 832IKBS in November 2013 from Explorer USA in Dallas (Mesquite).

We have put 7,500 miles on the trailer and lived in it full-time since March 6, 2014. Overall we are very happy with the trailer and satisfied.

We had one issue with the sail switch in the furnace the first time out which was quickly resolved.

We've replaced the small microwave with a Dometic microwave/convection oven. I've had to tighten a couple screws, remount a couple things. Otherwise no issues.

We've been down to 19 degrees several times. The fireplace electric heater and a small space heater are fine down to the mid-30's. At that point, I turn on the furnace to ensure heat into the underbelly area.

During the summer, the dual AC's have been great - up to 110 degrees kept it nice inside.

We have pretty good flow through ventilation with the two small windows on the bed slide, and in the main room of the TT. So we can sleep with the windows open if the temps are up to the low 80s.

Overall, we are very happy with the TT, but understand it is about a minimum level trailer for full-timing. It's certainly not the weight and build strength of a DRV. It's also not but about 22-24% of the price of the DRV. Would have like a bit more sidewall insulation, but we got what we paid for.

We previously owned a Cherokee Grey Wolf, which is a step below the model series you are looking at. We didn't have any issues with that TT either. But we didn't like the relatively cheap jackknife sofa, and some other things. Overall I won't say we were impressed with the build, but we weren't disappointed. We expected an entry level trailer built to meet a price point and were happy with what we got.
  • Our previous TT was a Flagstaff in a similar category & larger size than what you're looking at. It served us reasonably well for 6 years and a LOT of miles, but we did have a lot of wheel hub problems. As a result, I'm a bit gunshy with Al-Ko axles. Fit & finish was decent - nothing "lite" is going to be super solid - and the rest of the works didn't give us any major problems. We toured the Indiana factory where our unit was built (a couple years after we bought it) and were impressed with how they are put together. All in all, if the unit you're looking at has a CCC of at least 1000 lbs, I'd say go for it, and don't overload it. :)

When we decided to downsize, we looked at several different brands, including Lance. Although we liked a lot of the details of the Lance TTs we saw, there were problems with fit & finish with them too; they also were more expensive than the Forest River products in general. We ended up with another Forest River (but it does have Dexter axles :)). That may tell you something. Oh, and our new smaller TT still has the window above the head of the bed. (We found we didn't use it that much with the bigger TT, though, since we were almost always in private CGs, with a front view of our truck and other campers.)
  • You should look at a Lance. They now have a "moonroof" over the front full size queen bed and they're constructed great too.

  • I saw it today. I liked it as well. I spent 2 hrs going around. Nothing really stuck out except seeing solar prep on many brands. Saw Camp lite VrV toy hauler hybrid.
