Fram Air Hog filters

Anyone have any knowledge/experience with Fram Air Hog air filters? Do they come pre oiled from the box? Is there any other oil that can be used other than Fram? Your experiences/opinions will be appreciated.
  • Oiled filter seem to do fine in a gasser engine, not so much with a diesel engine. Unless you like less filtration and more sound:W

Inherited a couple of filters & thought I would give them a try in my 7.3 Ford, but I see enough already to make me change my mind. Thanks all.

With a 7.3 PSD, the only filter you should be considering is the Tymar style 6637 filter intake. It is highly effective and will not cause any issues whatsoever. Skip the Fram, K & N or whatever other trendy or gimmicky filter system you see in a magazine.

First thing a mechanic did when looking at our 99 Tahoe with running issues was look at the air filter. This was a K&N right out of the box. He cleaned the sensors and it ran great again. I changed to a Cone type AMZ/OIL dry filter, no problems since.
  • IMO, save yourself the $ and potential issues. Unless running high hp applications, OE type paper filters and housings are rarely the limiting factor and they filter as good or better.
From a been there done that person. I've given KN some of my money and don't feel I got anything in return except extra time spent doing air filter maint over just replacing a filter.
  • I`ve had my K&N in my X for 70k miles. no issues. had one I'm my minivan for 100k mi. have one in my 97 Grand Marquis and again no issues. I`ve used them since the 90`s with no problems.
