fridge blowing out

Ok, just wanted to see if anyone with older non DSI fridges have an issue with it blowing out on the highway and what you did to fix it. I have a Dometic RM2510 that actualy works good and for the most part stays lit. if it is a gusty day at highway speeds it will blow out the pilot on a big wind gust. also it is more prevailant in the cooler wether when the pilot is at low flame.

what I am wondering is if there is a way to put some sort of windscreen/baffel etc. with out aftecting natural airflow.

thanks
Steve
  • hmm lots of good ideas, I was reading about taping over some of the vents but I was worried about impacting some of the natural convection. the other thing I was thinking about was putting a furnace filter on the inside of the louvers just to brake up the wind gust and hopefully difuse it enough it cant blow out the pilot light.

  • We had major problems with our refrigerator while traveling, so aggravating. It worked great sitting in the yard. Finally, we used some rv oven outside vents and aluminum sheeting. We made a little bridge over our TC vents using the aluminum sheeting and bridging it over our fridge vents. The rv oven vents helped keep the alumiumn sheeting off of our regular fridge vent. Of course the top and bottom of the aluminum sheeting was open so it still had chimney effect. It still works great today. That was the last straw before selling our TC. It fixed it so we still have our TC.
  • I taped the top vent. The bottom two are still open. Forgive me if my count is off on how many vents there are.
  • I had a new 1984 5th wheel trailer that a side wind while camped and even on the road would do that.

I made a sheet metal baffle the size of the louvers in the fridge door. I made 6 small 1" X 1" wood blocks from a 1" X 4".
Then siliconed the blocks between the baffle and and door louvers. Worked great for stopping direct airflow to the pilot light.

Its been years but I think at one time some type of baffle was sold retail for that purpose. Might do a google on a fridge door baffle.

Mine had the same problem. I taped off the lower louvers in the outside vent and that pretty much took care of the problem.
  • Has it always done that?
Have you tried to clean the burner / pilot and chimney?
