- mich800ExplorerI guess all those mini vans are death traps with those big expansive sliding doors. A pillars have been an issue with every single make. That is a huge amount of weight in a roll over. My father in law rolled his regular cab Ram 3500 and the cab was completely flat in the front. Had to crawl out back window.

lack of b-pillar is far from new and also far from safe for both side impact and rollovers. one of the reasons dumped their old extended cabs for my11.
Do you have any evidence to back up that claim? Safecar.gov does, and when comparing the 2011 F-150 extended cab vs. the 2011 Ram quad cab, the both earned the same 5 star side impact rating, though the Ram (with a B-pillar) did have a note on the side impact testing, that they excluded from the 5 star rating.
So basically, if you dumped a 2011 Ford for a 2011 Ram, you actually took a step back in side impact safety.:W
Yes, Chevy engineers spoke about it in their press releases and detroit presentation when they replaced the EC with the DC. I was talking about GM trucks hence my 2011 reference when they made their major change. If it doesn't pertain to Ford then it doesn't pertain to Ford.
RE Ford, I own a 2006 (plus had a 2008 450 PU bought new) and love it. But I don't have blue oval blinkers on and the A-pillars have been week as hell for the last 16 years so I'm hoping the new ones are a big improvement. - FordloverExplorer

Concerning the Ram 1500: Due to the intrusion of the driver door during the side impact pole test, the interior door panel struck the torso of the driver dummy, causing high resultant lower spine acceleration of 87 g's. High resultant lower spine accelerations, in excess of 82 g's, have a higher likelihood of thoracic injury.
Note: Although not included in the star rating, the driver dummy's abdomen rib deflection and thoracic rib deflection readings were elevated

Have to say they look nice all but this one!
God help you if you get t-boned in that truck! All to save what 10# for the B-pillar? Dumb very very dumb! Wounder what CR and the IIHS thinks of this one?
Before anyone jumps on my back stop and think, would you want your family inside that truck? A car hitting it won't be to much of an issue. But if your t-boned by another pickup it is going to come right inside that passenger compartment and no matter how many side air bags it has, they won't help you!
As for the hips they look a lot nicer then the ones they are running right now. Still not a fan of the front ends, the one thing I like is they cut back on the number of "SUPER DUTY" badges by 3 lol. All kidding aside it looks like a very nice truck!

This gives much better access than my 2005 SC SD, but I bet there will be some truck camper owners with door damage. That rear door will swing open right into the corner jack even if folded in. - transferredExplorer

Will these all-new Ford SRW trucks start coming with 11.5" rear axles to match GM and Dodge?
The AAM rear end in the Ram was the biggest reason I was anxious to go back to a Ford. Both the Hemi and Cummins powered 2500HD's didn't make it to 100k miles before needing a rebuild. The Sterling rear end in the F250 has been solid so far. The other reason was those little dried out ball joints up front on those spindly little upper control arms. The ancient design twin I-beam has also been solid so far.
I've never had an issue with AAM1150s on my trucks and they get put through the ringer. Are you sure it was the AAM1150 as until recently that was never fitted to gasoline Dodges. - transferredExplorerlack of b-pillar is far from new and also far from safe for both side impact and rollovers. one of the reasons dumped their old extended cabs for my11.

The current 10.5" Visteon Sterling axle is rated at 9750 lbs. I don't see a reason to change it on the SRW. - Cummins12V98Explorer III"Please Ford! Make a normal looking grill! "
I agree, it's GAWD awful. - nohurryExplorerThe cab is the same as the f150, making me wonder if they're going to move back to one body style with different drivetrain.
Appearance is such a subjective thing. We all have our Tastes, and opinions. For me, all of the big three make nice looking trucks. There are things on each I like, and don't like, including my beloved Ford. :E Lets face it, we (especially those here who use our trucks to tow), choose our trucks for capability. Don't give me that brand loyalty junk. There have been many, who have jumped brands due to issues with their previously reliable brand. I don't blame them, and will readily admit that I would be just as willing to try another brand if I thought I needed to. Fact is though, Fords have been excellent for me. So I hang in there, no matter what they look like. :W

nothing new here, the modern version of this design has been around since the 1997 F-150. The B-pillar exists, it is just made into the structure of the rear door. The Honda Element, Toyota FJ, Saturn Ion, GM's supercab and I'm sure others. Oh wait, Dodge did that too.
