Generator storage?

So the camper doesn't have a compartmen large enough for the little Honda 2000 generator I picked up. ($600!, Craigslist is awesome!)
Was thinking about just strapping it to the roof of the camper. Have some little grab rails around the back end of the roof.
Otherwise I have to store it inside on the floor. Not bad, but I really dont want it bouncing around inside the camper. Not ready to do the hitch rack deal as it will just promote bringing more "stuff" with.
Roof seems plenty sturdy, but I'd still throw a little piece of plywood or something under it to save wear and tear on the roofing material.
Gene in one corner, gas can in the other, strapped down.
If it's not too loud, could just fire it up, up there, without even removing it.
Can throw a little bicycle lock on it to help with sticky fingers if needed.
Aside from the obvious concern like height, since it will be a bit higher than the AC, any other issues with this?
