Generator storage?

Ours sits inside the camper and fits between the table support and bench seat nicely. I don't do anything to secure it and it has never tipped over. We also don't have any odor. I put the gas can in one of the wheel wells.

hey, the $50 special is somewhat limited in size. weigh the generator, tell them the carrying capacity is all used up.

Not worried aboout it being exposed to the elements for a while. Being a used one it's not exactly pretty and not too hard to get up there. It's not 50lbs and easy enough to have someone hand it up to me while on the ladder. Haha, not too old, yet.
No generator compartment on this 860, it will slide into a long bed too. None of the side doors are big enough to fit it in. Eventually i am thinking about building a generator rack where they put the factory gene compartments on the SB only models.
Putting it in a plastic tub is a good idea inside. Got enough of those laying around.
I like that little ladder rack too. Will look at getting one of those. Good spot for a cooler too.
Come to think of it, a hitch rack might make a good intermediate step/landing into the camper as well. Camper Sitting up on the back of a tall truck could use a landing since the fold out stairs would get in the way when I pull a trailer.
Backseat wont work..........kids in back.
It would eventually be a pain to pull it down every time camping, agreed.

We have carried our 2000 inside the camper but forward on the floor against the front wall. Turn it sideways and stick foam or a folded towel between the front wall and the gen.

Never smells. (keep the vented cap closed)

We have also carried it in the truck cab behind the front seat.

I would hesitate to have it at the back of the camper. Run into something solid or worse, have a head-on collision and that 45# generator will become a missile. Yeah, I know- one in a million, but why risk it when 8' further ahead would be better.


But up on the roof?? IMHO (and others) NOT a good idea.

Just curious, I thought all the AF campers had the same size generator compartment. My Honda 2000 fit, but just barely, so I dropped the floor of the generator compartment another 2 1/2". I just welded some straps to the angle iron supports that held the floor up, and bolted those straps to the original holes. I then went to the local boat dealer and had a sheet of 3/16" aluminum cut to fit the floor. The floor of the compartment is 10x times more rigid now than with the plywood that was in there. I can post pics if you need them.

Mine fits between the wall and the Queen bed so I screwed two D-ring anchors into the plywood under the mattress and bungee cord it in place. Hasn't budged an inch since...so far.
